Equinor signed long term firm gas SPA with German state-owned SEFE in Berlin on 19 Dec 2023 The gas buyer under this SPA is SEFE Securing Energy for Europe GmbH (SEFE). The company is the former Gazprom Germania that was the main subsidiary of the #russian Gazprom for its gas operations in #europe . SEFE was formed when German authorities nationalized Gazprom Germania in November 2022 after the European Commission had agreed to provide the Russian subsidiary with €225.6 million ($233 million) in aid. Under the SPA Equinor will supply SEFE with 111 terrawatt hours (TWh) equivalent to some 10 billion Sm3/y of natural gas in the period 1 January 2024 until 2034. This represents just less than nine per cent (9%) of #norway 's total pipeline gas exports in 2022. The firm 10 year contact period in the SPA is followed by an option under which the SPA can be extended for five (5) years for an additional supply of 319 TWh (around 29 bcm or just under six (6) billion Sm3/y). Thus this SPA could potentially include in total some 130 billion Sm3 over a 15-year period. This is equivalent to more than one year's gas production from the total Norwegian Continental shelf. The SPA for pipeline gas with SEFE, and other firm LT pipeline gas SPAs signed with other European buyers after 2020 by Norwegian gas producers, all reflect current market prices, i.e. they have prices based on gas prices at European gas hubs. SEFE has operations in a number of European countries. Gas bought under the SEFE SPA will in addition to #germany also be delivered to the #netherlands and the #uk . The gas will be delivered to Trading Hub Europe GmbH (THE) in Germany, Title Transfer Facility (TTF Group) in the Netherlands and at the National Balancing Point (NBP) in the UK [National Grid]. Despite clear signals from the European Commission that the use of natural gas will be phased out gradually to reach climate targets in 2050, Brussels has also made unusually strong statements about the need for both gas and oil from the Norwegian continental shelf, the Equinor CEO points out. "In practice, this agreement shows what Norwegian and European politicians have said, that there is a need for [oil and gas production from] the Norwegian shelf for a long time. And it is now signed in ink," he stated. The agreement with SEFE also includes an option for delivery of #hydrogen from Norway from 2029. Earlier this year, Equinor signed a letter of intent with Germany's RWE for hydrogen. If Germany needs hydrogen it should in my opinion not be produced in Norway for then to be transported to Germany in a 1000 km + pipeline. Germany should instead continue buying natural gas from Norway and if needed convert this to blue hydrogen on German soil. Any other solution would be very inefficient and unnecessary costly. https://lnkd.in/eN3G75GP

Pipeline projects in Texas and Louisiana are advancing to support five LNG export projects, adding over 20 Bcf/d of capacity. About 13.5 Bcf/d is currently under construction, aiming to boost U.S. LNG output to nearly 25 Bcf/d by the end of the decade. The Rio Grande and Port Arthur projects in Texas could add another 3 Bcf/d. Notably, 10% of U.S. feed gas deliveries are consumed during liquefaction. Specific projects include Gator Express, Evangeline Pass, and Venice Extension for Venture Global LNG's Plaquemines project, Golden Pass pipeline for the Golden Pass export terminal, and the Corpus Christi Stage 3 pipeline for Cheniere Energy's South Texas expansion. The Rio Bravo system is for NextDecade Corp.'s Rio Grande export terminal, and connectors in Louisiana and Texas are planned for Sempra Infrastructure's Port Arthur project. All Texas facilities are expected to enter service in 2028. #Energy #NaturalGas #LNG #LNGProjects #PipelineDevelopment #USLNGExports #EnergyInfrastructure #EnergyInvestment https://lnkd.in/gHDwSigK

This makes for a great read for those interested in the commissioning of #LNG plants...... "LNG Canada, under construction for nearly six years on Canada’s West Coast, is rapidly approaching the time when first gas will be entering the plant for testing and calibration of equipment, marking an important transformation for the Western Canadian natural gas market. This will kick off what will likely be about a year-long testing process before officially entering commercial service in mid-2025. In today’s #RBN blog, we consider daily gas flow data from the startup of similar-sized #LNG plants on the U.S. Gulf Coast and develop a conjectural timeline for #LNGCanada to help assess how much gas will flow to the site — and how soon — and when #LNG exports might begin." #CanadianLNG #BCLNG https://lnkd.in/gna_dk64

Germany has been working to reduce its dependence on Russian gas and increase energy diversification. The German government has been promoting the development of renewable energy and plans to gradually reduce its dependence on coal. In addition, Germany is also actively seeking other sources of natural gas supply, including cooperation with Norway. Regarding the permanent loss of economic activity in energy-intensive industries, this is a complex issue. The German government has been working hard to promote the energy transition to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources and encourage the development of renewable energy sources. However, this transformation requires time and resources and may have an impact on certain industries. However, the German government is also working to provide support and transition opportunities to mitigate these impacts. As for the issue of energy demand balance and energy supply, this is a complex market issue affected by multiple factors. The signing of new gas supply agreements and LNG contracts may have an impact on Germany's energy demand balance, but the specific situation depends on market demand and supply conditions.

Alaska LNG Developer Shifts Focus to Pipeline After Tentative Feed Gas Supply Agreement https://ift.tt/0EUhWVI Alaska Gasline Development Corp. (AGDC) aims to build an 800-mile natural gas pipeline for the Alaska LNG project before progressing the terminal as it balances its dual goals of increasing in-state gas supply and completing the export project. The state-backed nonprofit firm disclosed the new phased approach and the decision to undertake a front-end engineering and design process for the 42-inch diameter pipeline after inking a tentative supply agreement. AGDC signed a gas sales precedent agreement with a unit of Pantheon Resources plc to supply up to 500 MMcf/d at $1/MMBtu or lower for the Alaska liquefied natural gas export facility for up to 20 years, with options to extend. Initial volumes could come as early as 2029 and ramp up to full capacity by 2032. [Lower 48 Natural Gas Market Fundamentals: Join NGI’s Patrick Rau, senior vice president of Research & Analysis, for a rundown on the top ten themes during the first quarter and what they mean for natural gas supply and demand in 2024 and beyond. Tune in to NGI’s podcast to learn more.] “Phasing Alaska LNG by leading with the construction of the pipeline will make Alaska LNG’s export components more attractive to LNG developers and investors, and this agreement will help unlock the project’s substantial economic, environmental, and energy security benefits for international markets as well as for Alaska,” AGDC President Frank Richards said. Ahpun and Alaska LNG The 20 million metric tons/year capacity LNG export project is fully permitted and currently unaffected by the U.S. Department of Energy’s pause on new export authorizations. However, the estimated $44 billion facility is still unsanctioned and currently lacks firm offtake agreements or investors. AGDC has been trying to garner foreign and private interest in the project since it took over as sponsor in 2016. Affiliates of BP plc, ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil previously exited the project. Meanwhile, London-based Pantheon has been advancing development plans in Alaska’s Ahpun and Kodiak fields. Pantheon Executive Chairman David Hobbs said monetizing its associated gas and targeting early production could give the firm an additional option for funding its Alaskan projects as it weighs upsizing development. “We are building a mutually beneficial long-term relationship with Alaska LNG and with the state which seeks to supply much needed gas required for Southcentral Alaska’s energy needs, while at the same time realizing the value from our contingent resources exceeding 1.5 billion barrels of (Alaska North Slope crude oil) and 6 Tcf of natural gas,” Hobbs said. Alaska typically is the fourth largest gross natural gas producer, but the majority of the volumes withdrawn are reinjected into North Slope wells to maintain oil production rates, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) data. ...
