Women have been increasingly making significant contributions to the mining sector, challenging traditional gender roles and driving positive change within the industry. The following represents the valuable contributions of women in mining: Increased Female Representation The mining industry has seen a notable rise in the number of women participating in various roles within the sector, with women making up a growing percentage of the workforce. At Zimbabwe School of Mines we are now at more than 30% representation and still growing through gender committees that promote women participation through education and training and foster enrollment into this mining training institution. We have women such as Fazilla Mukazi https://lnkd.in/d4d4npBN working in leadership roles and tsitsi dhambuza https://lnkd.in/dGTACQBM who are trailblazing and proving that women can do it. Leadership and Trailblazing Women have emerged as leaders and trailblazers in the mining industry, showcasing their expertise, skills, and dedication to advancing the sector. We have women such as Kundai Chikonzo who is the Managing Director of Hawkline Mine. She is also involved in sustainable development initiatives, such as environmental business rights, risk management, and the rights of women, children, and the disabled. https://lnkd.in/d_s2sYuq. Not forgeting Dr Chiedza Chipangura who is the national director of Women Empowerment in Mining Zimbabwe (WEMZ). She has acknowledged the positive impact of women's involvement in mining, both in terms of community development and women's financial empowerment. Sophia Takuva, the Director of African Women in Mining Empowerment Trust just to mention a few. Dr. Mercy Manyuchi (PhD, Pr.Eng, EDBL,MBL) holds leadership positions in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, Zimbabwe. Economic Impact Women's involvement in mining has not only diversified the workforce but has also contributed significantly to the economic growth of the sector. In countries like Zimbabwe, women miners have played a crucial role in driving progress and development within the industry. The role of women in the extractives industry can not be ignored.

Empowering women in Africa’s mining industry! Discover the thoughts of Carla Clamp of BDO South Africa as she examines the challenges holding women back in the continent’s mining industry and why it is imperative to identify and remove such barriers. “There is a whole lot of untapped potential in women that could be miners that is currently not being assessed or utilised. Given the opportunity, these women could make a huge difference in the industry and can join the ranks of the several women change-makers that have been in the industry.” A the upcoming Investing in African Mining Indaba conference Clamp advised attendees and participants to keep this vital topic in mind throughout each discussion in this year’s agenda: “It is imperative that we maintain the focus of removing the barriers that keep women from shining and reaching their highest potential in an industry that has been historically male-dominated.” Discover the full interview at: https://lnkd.in/eERHV9Hu #MiningIndaba #WomenInMining #WomenEmpowerment #AfricaMining #WomenInBusiness
