What makes an awesome employee in finance: 1. Super SMART 2. At least a master's degree 3. Years of experience 4. Vast knowledge of financial instruments .... errr...no, this is totally FALSE. What REALLY makes an awesome employee in FINANCE: 1. Excellent communication skills (responding to emails instantly for example) 2. Setting realistic expectations, not what you think they want to hear 3. Interpersonal skills 4. Time management skills 5. Project management skills Now here's the BAD NEWS: It's virtually IMPOSSIBLE to demonstrate most of the second list on your resume. So we have to revert to the first which really isn't a good indication at all of how well you will fit on the team and how good of a job you'll do. Bizarre.

In this job market, I sometimes have the feeling that I'm being scammed. I literally just saw a job offer for "Business Analyst", but the required experience didn't match the job title... reading the rest of the ad, the company forgot to change the job title in the actual description. What they were actually looking for? A Senior Project Manager. 🤡 Since salaries are mostly based on job title, it can feel deceptive to require lots of experience out of a candidate, but advertise it as Analyst or "entry-level" just so you can lower the salary range.

I Partner With Leadership of Privately Held Middle-Market Companies To Fill Their Accounting & Finance Teams With The Right Talent Via The BGC Search Difference | Executive Recruiter
No two positions are the same. A Controller at Company A might be a Senior Accountant at Company B... A Financial Analyst at Company A might be a Staff Accountant at Company B... Strange but true. Keep this in mind during your job search and understand "What role am I really in?" "What is my skill set?" "Where can I apply these skills best?" Then you can just take that understanding and use a more targeted approach when looking for your next role. What weird position titles have you seen where they didn't match the actual job? #accountingandfinance #talentacquisition #hiring

Beyond Code: The Undervalued Power of Functional Knowledge in IT. In any organization, there are two fundamental types of knowledge every employee needs to acquire: technical and functional. Functional knowledge involves understanding the core operations and objectives of the company. Mastering this can take anywhere from one to two years and is unique to each organization. It's this depth of understanding that makes you truly valuable to a company. Interestingly, in the IT sector, employers seem predominantly focused on technical expertise. During the hiring process, questions often center around one's proficiency with specific technologies rather than experience in areas like marketing, finance, or logistics. From my experience working across approximately 20 different companies in various sectors, the initial phase is heavily spent in decoding the unique internal dynamics of an organization. This observation underscores a paradox where the value of functional understanding is often underrated in the IT industry, despite its critical role in an employee's long-term success and integration within a company. #it #hiring #knowledge

Human Resource Generalist | Talent Acquisition & Management | Payroll |Benefits Administration |Performance Management|Employee Relations|HR Operations|HRM|
Tolu started her career at BT, a finance company, where she was part of the founding team. Over the next 8 years, she became deeply familiar with the business processes, earning a reputation as the go-to person for guidance. As an Account Officer, Tolu was efficient and reliable, but as the business evolved, it required new skills and expertise. This led to the hiring of Sharon, an Operations Manager. Within weeks, Sharon identified gaps in the business processes that were reducing profitability by 30%. She knew she needed Tolu's help to fix this. Together, they worked long hours, but Tolu soon felt threatened by Sharon's suggestions. Sharon pointed out that Tolu had not evolved in her role over the years and recommended courses to enhance her skills. Tolu, however, saw this as an affront and resisted Sharon's advice. Sharon, undeterred, implemented changes that quickly turned the company's performance around, leading to the approval of her ideas for process improvements. Six months later, it became clear that Tolu's refusal to adapt had hindered her ability to lead the finance team effectively. Consequently, the business had no choice but to initiate her separation due to poor performance. What are my key points in this very long piece? 👌#Adaptation is Key: The world of work is ever-changing, and staying relevant requires continuous growth and adaptation. 👌Learn from Others: When you encounter individuals with greater expertise, see it as an opportunity to learn rather than compete. 👌#Collaboration and #learning are crucial. Develop a "T-Shaped" Skill Set: As you progress in your career, it's important to build both depth (expertise in a specific area) and breadth (capability across various areas). 👌 Understanding processes is valuable, but knowledge of how to increase and sustain #business #profitability is what truly drives success. P.s. My stories are not any real experiences I know of and the names are characters in my play😁 Never stopped cheering you on, keep evolving🥂
