It's #NAIDOCWeek, a nationwide celebration honouring the history, culture and achievements of First Nations peoples. It’s a chance for us all to celebrate our Australian heritage, a chance to listen, learn and engage with amazing cultures and histories that span 65,000 years, in an effort to foster a society where contributions from First Nations people are valued and respected. This year's theme, ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud’, celebrates First Nations people's cultural heritage, deep connection to Country and unyielding spirit. The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of the oldest living culture on earth – with fire as a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The Department of Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force are proud to be actively creating a culturally safe and inclusive workplace that celebrates the contributions of First Nations peoples and supports their cultural responsibilities in their communities. It's NAIDOC week, and this year's theme is Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud, and Proud. This years theme focuses on celebrating the cultural resilience of First Nations people, their profound connection to the land and traditions, and their pride in their First Nation identity. "It embodies our purpose, calling us to celebrate and honour the strength and vitality of our cultures." As an organisation, we have been putting to task the recommendations from NAIDOC - here’s three things you can do: - Check your local council for events: https://lnkd.in/dexeVKVM - If you cannot attend an in-person event, here are other ways to participate: Follow and engage with First Nations creators online, attend online events, and watch movies and shows featuring First Nations stories. Learn the traditional names of the land you live on and its owners. - Follow, like and share some cool people who are posting interesting content, here are some of our favourite current and upcoming leaders: https://lnkd.in/gy8U6aks https://lnkd.in/gfmX8dD5 https://lnkd.in/g3_q2HB #NAIDOC24 #BLAK #keepthefireburning #impactinvesting #indigenousknowledges

From Jaffna to Australia: Embracing NAIDOC Week and the Power of Resilience As a Tamil refugee born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, the journey to safety and stability has been one of profound challenges and invaluable lessons. Experiencing the horrors of civil war firsthand instilled in me a deep appreciation for peace, cultural heritage, and the importance of community. This personal history has given me a unique perspective on the significance of NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It’s a time to honour their rich traditions and acknowledge the resilience and strength that has carried them through adversity. Much like the Tamil community, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have faced significant challenges. Their perseverance and unwavering spirit remind us of the importance of unity, respect, and the power of cultural identity. NAIDOC Week is more than just a celebration; it’s a call to action for all Australians to engage with and support Indigenous communities. By learning from their stories and standing together, we can foster a more inclusive and respectful society. Let’s embrace this week with open hearts and minds, recognising the profound contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to our shared history and future. #NAIDOC2024 #UnityInDiversity #CulturalHeritage #CommunityStrength

The Kleinfelder team took time to acknowledge NAIDOC week and the importance of celebrating the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The team participated in events to learn more about First Nations culture, investigated and presented ways to promote and foster increased Indigenous participation in our industry, and incorporated conscious supply changes to our business. All with the aim of learning how to be the best ally we can be. This NAIDOC week we at Kleinfelder continue to make conscious focused changes and challenge ourselves to learn and do more; for we believe even today’s smaller deliberate changes can become the instinctive strides forward of tomorrow. #NAIDOC2024

This year’s NAIDOC Week will again celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with the theme of “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud”. ANZSOG acknowledges the importance of NAIDOC Week as a celebration which honours First Nations peoples and reminds us of the importance of our own journey to become a culturally competent organisation, making a positive contribution to First Nations policy and public administration. Held across Australia from 7-14 July 2024, this year’s NAIDOC Week recognises the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire as a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In NAIDOC week, and throughout the year, ANZSOG stands with the First Nations of Australia and supports aspirations for a just and equitable relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and for First Nations communities to have control over their own lives. Despite the progress we have made, there are still many structural and cultural changes that need to happen within public services to make this a reality, and we are proud that ANZSOG is working to help make those changes happen.
