As the year comes to an end, I want to take a moment to reflect on my journey at AXA Partners. When I joined AXA Partners in 2013 as an assistance agent, it was my first big leap into the unknown, transitioning from working with children to a completely different field. Over the years, I gained experience and applied for various roles, but faced multiple rejections. I started to feel stuck, frustrated, and underestimated. Everything changed when an amazing person joined our team as the Workforce Manager. She saw potential in me and, encouraged by my team leader, I decided to take a chance. I was given the opportunity to learn planning tools, manage operations, and oversee tasks like traffic and vacation planning. Laure Courbois if it weren’t for you, I would likely still be in that same place. Thank you for believing in me and giving me the chance to grow. Another incredible person also saw my potential and pushed me far out of my comfort zone. I became a trainer—a role I never imagined myself doing. It was intimidating at first, but it taught me to trust myself. Beyond training, I started learning about eCare (Salesforce) and collaborating with colleagues to test and report bugs. Then came a pivotal moment: changes within the company gave me the chance to choose my next direction. I could remain as a trainer, return to planning, or take another leap into the unknown. I chose the leap, continuing my journey as a local tester for Belgium. With Sylvie as my manager, I’ve grown even more. She constantly pushes me to improve, reminding me that I, Alexandra, bring value to the work I do. Sylvie Schouteten thank you for believing in me and helping me thrive. My journey hasn’t been easy. Facing rejection, doubting my worth, and proving myself repeatedly were significant challenges. On top of that, I’ve battled with my mental health, even finding myself in a very dark place earlier this year. I used to dismiss my struggles, thinking they were insignificant compared to others. But someone reminded me: your feelings and struggles matter too. You matter. This year was tough, with its highs and lows. But I’ve learned that it’s okay to ask for help and lean on others. It doesn’t mean I can’t handle my job—it means I’m committed to growing and improving, supported by amazing colleagues and a culture of mutual support. This journey—my journey at AXA Partners—has shaped me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Here’s to continuing to grow, together. Nine years ago, I made a rather brave decision by accepting an offer from If Insurance Baltic. I remember the first and only interview I had. On my way home, I told my husband (actually we weren't married yet at that time) : "I want to work there." He asked: "But how could you make such a quick decision?" Considering that I wasn't actively looking for a new job or opportunities, it might have seemed impulsive. But in every field, there are professionals, and at that time, the headhunters did an excellent job. I replied to him: "It's hard to explain in words; it was a feeling I caught, that this was the right place." After that single interview, there was a rather long pause. I didn’t hesitate to follow up and inquire about what was happening because my feelings hadn’t changed. There were internal processes within the company that caused a slight delay in communication. But by the end of the year, I had signed the contract, and with the new year (2016), I started at my new job. 💥 And you know what – that good feeling is still there. I'm glad I listened to myself then and continue to do so now, especially in difficult and heavy situations like the one I had to deal with yesterday (of course, I wasn't alone; I appreciate the support🙏). If you listen to yourself and know it's for the better, it gives you confidence that the storm will pass, and calmer times will come. And when those calmer times arrive, you have to celebrate; you can’t skip or postpone it. Has it been 30 years already? 😳 😱 3️⃣0️⃣ 🥂 In the summer of 1994 I graduated after two years of ‚vocational training‘ as ‚examined insurance professional‘ in #Germany (Thanks to Rainer Breeck for suggesting this term. The German words are ‚Berufsausbildung‘ und ‚Versicherungskaufmann‘. Feel free to post your preferred translations in the comments section below … 👇🏼 ). How did I end up in insurance? I am always joking that there are two reasons to start a career in #riskmanagement and #insurance 1️⃣ A personal relationsip („My uncle, mother, neighbour etc ran an insurance agency“) 2️⃣ By mere coincidence („A recruiter approached me on campus for an internship.“ etc.) In my case, it was 2️⃣. While studying business administration and economics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, I wanted to get out of academics and get in some real work experience first. I sent out my CV to several companies from different industries and got an offer from IHA Industrie- und Handels- Assekuranz Versicherungsmakler GmbH in Koblenz (now deas Deutsche Assekuranzmakler GmbH). What followed were two amazing years where I learned the basics of insurance and met some incredible colleagues … some of them I am still working with. Jürgen Weih Lothar Birker Wolfgang Wieland Armin Sauer paul mondorf Uwe Hartmann Stephan Mayer Egon Gras Frank Schumacher And from there, I entered the world of #multinational insurance, working for Aon and Marsh in Germany, USA and the UK. I had no idea what I was signing up for and honestly thought that insurance was boring. But it opened the doors for multiple opportunities for me … travelling the world, working on different continents, advising stock-listed companies and advising on board room topics. #esg #cyber #supplychain When the Covid19 pandemic hit in 2020, it also showed me how resilient our industry is . From day one of the first lockdown, we managed to change our business model and continue to provide seemless service and advice to our clients. Safe and interesting jobs in a relevant industry that provide good salaries and benefits, with many opportunities to advance your career anywhere in the world. What do you want more.
