We know so many were affected by the recent Hurricane Beryl, and all of us at KTB are thinking of everyone during this difficult time of clean-up and rebuilding. If there is one thing we know about our community and Texans in general, it is that so many of us are ready to give back when duty calls. We have pulled together a list of organizations providing assistance to the areas affected by the storm. Thanks to The Texas Tribune for these suggestions: The Houston Food Bank has a disaster relief fund accepting monetary donations for food, water and other necessary supplies. Once disaster needs are met, any remaining funds will help provide food for people facing hunger across southeast Texas: https://lnkd.in/gT8JKthC The American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast has asked for volunteers to assist in Beryl aid operations. The core reason we founded Manatii back in June 2022 was to help The Bahamas recover after the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian. For those that do not know, Dorian: 🌀 Was the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the Atlantic 🌪 Worst natural disaster in recorded Bahamian history 💰 Caused over $3.4bn in damage to The Bahamas  🍃 Sustained winds of 185 mph (298 kph) 🏘 Left over 70,000 people homeless 😢 Killed over 1300 people With COVID hitting just 6 months later, a lot of aid organizations abandoned the area leaving a devastating situation for the local communities. Our philanthropic goal was to donate £2 from every bottle sold to charities that were helping The Bahamas rebuild. We couldn’t be more delighted to announce that, since our launch, Manatii has donated over £2,000 to Green Turtle Cay Foundation. Not only are they helping Green Turtle Cay in Abaco recover, they are also building infrastructure to help the island prepare for the next disaster. Their current project is to reconstruct the local primary school to also double up as a hurricane shelter. June’s Lesson Learned in a Small Buisness? Do your charity due diligence! •Meet the founders. Face to face is best but over Zoom works too. •Do as many checks as you can on the founders and any people who work for them. Use the internet, LinkedIn etc. •Ask for annual reports / accounts and get an Account to look them over and check against Companies House. •Ask for proof of how donations have been used. Pictures, concepts, videos, talk to the people it’s benefitted etc. We did our research and we’re so proud to be partnered with Green Turtle Cay Foundation 🐢   Here’s to many more donations in the future.   #rumwithpurpose

Well, for those of us along the west coast of FL, we are currently experiencing Hurricane Idalia. Prayers of safety for everyone impacted. So what are 5 Things Nonprofit Board Members might do during and following a local hurricane? - #1 Take care of yourself and your family. - #2 Let your CEO/ED know you care about them and hope they are safe. - #3 Check in the the CEO/ED after the storm passes to inquire about them and the organization. #4 Consider making an extra financial contribution and rallying your other board members to do the same. - #5 Let the CEO/ED do his/her job! Americans' desire to help is exploited by scammers through phone calls, texts, emails, and even door-to-door visits. There are several ways to verify a hurricane relief charity according to the Federal Trade Commission:   • Use give.org, charitynavigator.org, charitywatch.org, and guidestar.org to find reputable charities.   • Keep an eye out for names that sound similar to those of well-known, reputable companies   • Choose the relief effort you wish to support and search for the charity's name online with words such as "complaint," "review," "rating" or "scam."   • Do not click on links or open attachments in emails that request donations or other help from you You can report scams you see at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
