Leaders from U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, United States Army Special Operations Command, & U.S. Army Cyber Command discussed how their commands work together to integrate capabilities across spectrums of conflict at the Association of U.S. Army's Warriors Corner event. This integration will bolster the joint force's ability to disrupt missile capabilities prior to launch. “My space operators are able to do exquisite operational preparation of the environment on adversary capabilities. We couldn’t do that if we didn’t necessarily have the access that SOF or cyber are gating us. We are able to take that operational preparation environment and take that information and data, get it across a pretty robust federated intel community with great support and better refine the intel product that, if needed, during crisis operations we can put into effect,” said Lt. Gen. Daniel Karbler, commanding general, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command. Read more below:
“We might have cobbled it together along the way, but now it’s really a part of the formal mission analysis.” ~LTG Daniel Karbler, #ArmySMDC CG https://lnkd.in/giVZQERu

Good piece on the challenges posed by "Space warfare". With unclear bondaries between civilian & military and ambiguous rules of engagement, Space has become a "gray zone" that calls for different approaches than other domains. This shift from conventional war is clearly a challenge for armed forces, that will need to adapt and bend their traditional approaches to counter hostile competition. Fascinating, and a wake-up call for Space Forces to rethink doctrines accordingly. https://lnkd.in/ea8gQ59b #greyzone #spacebattles #spaceforce

The Challenge of Joint Space Operations, Washington DC (USNI) Jan 03, 2024 For the United States and its allies and partners, using space to obtain an information advantage is a key aspect of joint operations. The joint force uses space operations to understand the battlespace, exercise command and control (C2), and conduct joint integrated fires. For decades, the United States has enjoyed a significant operational advantage in space, but China is challenging that., : Washington DC (USNI) Jan 03, 2024 For

“Space Competition Enters the Gray Zone” In the evolving landscape of space warfare, conflict is shifting into what experts commonly call the “gray zone.” Unlike traditional conflicts defined by clear boundaries, rules of engagement and identifiable actors, space battles in the gray zone are ambiguous, with military and civilian activities that can be difficult to discern. “It’s crucial for U.S. policymakers and military leaders to understand the nuances of future competition in space, and how it will likely play out,” said John Klein, military strategist and adjunct professor at George Washington University’s Space Policy Institute.
