Exciting insight into the world of additive manufacturing of graded materials! At our fourth scientific colloquium, we were able to experience an impressive presentation on the topic of “Graded materials produced using additive manufacturing: From process to properties”. It was fascinating to see the possibilities that additive manufacturing now offers to influence material properties locally in a targeted manner. The contents on - combinations of materials with different chemical compositions and - intended production and control of pores were particularly inspiring. Valuable input for our Collaborative Research Center and further research in this exciting field! 🙌 Many thanks to Prof. Niendorf and Dr. Wegener from the Institut für Werkstofftechnik IfW (Universität Kassel) for the excellent presentation and to Prof. Beck for the organization. We are already looking forward to the next colloquium in February, where Prof. Alexander Hasse will talk about adaptive structures.

I am thrilled to announce the publication of my first PhD paper in the Journal of Accident Analysis and Prevention! 🎉 In this study, we compared factors affecting the safety of pedestrians accessing bus stops across countries with different income levels. While travelling by bus is relatively safe, our findings highlight the dangers pedestrians face when walking to and waiting at bus stops, such as areas lacking essential infrastructure like footpaths, crossings, and adequate lighting, especially in low-and-middle-income countries. Our research emphasises the importance of evaluating both perceived safety (how people feel about accessing bus stops) and objective safety (how the physical characteristics of bus stops influence pedestrian safety). This article is the first study of my PhD research at CARRS-Q. 🌟 Excited to share my Final Year Project from the University of Hertfordshire 🌟 Project Title: Analytical and Experimental Investigation of Stress Wave Propagation Using Acousto-Ultrasonics: Applications in Non-Destructive Testing of Isotropic and Composite Materials. In this project, I explored the fascinating world of stress wave propagation in materials like Al6082-T6 aluminum alloy and carbon fiber composites, focusing on their energy absorption, attenuation, and dispersion properties. The findings are instrumental in advancing non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for industries like automotive and aerospace, enhancing safety and reliability.

🌟 Excited to present our paper at the 104th Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting 🌟 🧠 Our research leverages computer vision and machine learning techniques to fully utilize multi-temporal 3D laser pavement imagery, which has been collected by highway agencies in recent years but not fully exploited to enhance pavement maintenance. 🛣️ Through a case study on a section of US-80 near Savannah, GA, we demonstrated the feasibility of our predictive methodology in prioritizing pavement sections and optimizing treatment planning at fine intervals, leading to more strategic and cost-effective maintenance decisions. 🗓️ Poster Session 2219 | Advanced Tools to Support Maintenance Management Decision Making | January 6, 2025 Yang, Z., Fung, J., Ho, H., & Tsai, Y. How can we design and understand human interactions with automated and autonomous systems? This is the topic of our PHD level course "Designing and analyzing human-autonomy interaction with the Joint Control Framework" at Linköping University, given now in spring 2025.
