"Growing Justice is a pooled fund co-designed by funders, farmers, advocates, food suppliers, purchasers, and community partners from Native and non-native communities nationwide. Growing Justice envisions a future in which Tribal, Indigenous, Black, Latinx, Asian, and immigrant people engaged in food markets as suppliers, producers, distributors, workers, and eaters at community-serving institutions are economically and physically thriving thanks in part to efforts by large community institutions to prioritize equitable good food procurement." https://lnkd.in/g8n6cDJ3

In the current social climate where households are struggling to feed their families, yet tonnes of edible food is going to landfill, we were thrilled to listen to @jogideon_mp discussing the vital work being conducted by food distribution charities in the UK during the Food Waste and Food Distribution debate in Paliment this week. Ensuring that all households have access to food is one of UKHarvest's key priorities; the fact that so much surplus food is wasted by growers is an issue that needs greater attention. We hope to continue to work with farmers and growers to ensure that less edible food goes to waste, and that more reaches the people that need it most. The story of Elizabeth, mother of one of our feeding program beneficiaries who chose to give back as a volunteer cook and start a livelihood program with fellow parents, is proof that empowering communities can indeed start with a meal! ❤️💪 Check out how our programs have impacted Elizabeth by watching the video below. #ItStartsWithAMeal #ZeroHunger #SocialImpact #BetterWorldTondo
Real impact for people like Elizabeth in the Philippines starts with a meal, and it starts with you! Earlier this week, we shared how the Better World Tondo food bank is providing daily lunches for children, but it is also empowering local women! Check out Elizabeth’s story in this video. 🇵🇭 Participant: Elizabeth is a volunteer cook committed to helping her community by preparing meals for the students. And that’s not all! She also helped launch a mushroom livelihood program. 🌱 Project: In 2023, the volunteer cooks started growing mushrooms at Better World Tondo. They use the harvest to make and sell mushroom chips. 🍄 The Impact: Elizabeth and the other women are using their income to support their families. They earned ₱18,000 pesos together in just two months! Did you miss the other Better World Tondo video this week? Check it out and learn more: https://lnkd.in/dbCGqumA #ItStartsWithAMeal

Great piece by Rachel on the importance of holding strategic plans lightly. Something that we’ve experimented with at CPI ANZ is having a “vision”, rather than a strategy. It gives us a North Star and a direction of travel, but feels better suited to complexity. The difference between a vision and a strategy is perhaps similar to the difference perhaps between a traditional theory of change and a “vector theory of change” that Dave Snowden talks about - https://lnkd.in/gX_WmP4Y

A little while ago a friend who works at an NGO made a light-hearted quip about the time and resources funders spend on strategic planning. It got me thinking and I jotted down some of the ideas we grappled with as we worked on our strategy last year (remaining alive to the fact that there I was, spending time writing about strategic planning😂). https://lnkd.in/e4g4SgBm

Good Morning TechBabesNZ Community! It’s time to work your magic! ⭐️ You have the opportunity to help an amazing organisation feed hungry tummies in Auckland and Wellington with the incredible initiative Everybody Eats 🥘 By voting for Everybody Eats on this link: https://lnkd.in/gz84YwbF you’ll increase their chances in receiving a share in a grant that will be announced on September 30th by My Giving Circle. It's free to vote and only takes a moment. ✅ Some information about Everybody Eats: Everybody Eats is a remarkable movement that addresses critical issues: food waste, food poverty, and social isolation. 1. Alleviating Food Poverty: Shockingly, one in six Kiwis faces food insecurity. Despite being a developed nation, New Zealand grapples with food poverty. Everybody Eats steps in by providing restaurant-quality, three-course meals to those in need. For every $10 raised, they can serve three such meals, making a tangible impact. 2. Reducing Food Waste: Globally, around one-third of the food produced ends up uneaten. In New Zealand, this wastage contributes to harmful greenhouse gases like methane. By rescuing perfectly good food that would otherwise be discarded, Everybody Eats plays a vital role in minimising food waste. 3. Building Community: Our society has become increasingly fragmented, and social isolation is a growing concern. Everybody Eats creates welcoming spaces where people from diverse backgrounds come together. Shared tables, friendly volunteers, and delicious meals foster connections, trust, and a sense of community. 4. Reducing Desperation: When people struggle to find food, they may resort to desperate measures, such as theft or unsafe food sources. By providing reliable meals, Everybody Eats reduces desperation and promotes community safety. Further information about Everybody Eats can be found on their website: https://everybodyeats.nz/ In summary, backing Everybody Eats isn’t just about food—it’s about compassion, empowerment, and building a stronger, more resilient community. 🌟🍽️🤝 #EverybodyEats #MakingAnImpact #NewZealand Urisha Sing

Our EOFY June 2024 Campaign is now live as we look to raise $25k to support materials and resources at the Rooftop Garden we manage that is the hub for our WISE pathway and location for the growing of cultural foods to supply food literacy programs lifting people out of food poverty for CALD Groups and others facing barriers to employment .Our model is for skills, education, learning and development and not a direct free food relief provision. We also consider a supply to organisations with shared values at low costs or surplus for their onwards support. We know 48% of Australians have admitted to food security challenges with 20% facing extreme challenges currently. Help us look to supporting the supply chain during the next financial year by letting your employer know, your fellow employees or networks who are looking for a social offset at this critical tax time in the financial year.
