"Growing Justice is a pooled fund co-designed by funders, farmers, advocates, food suppliers, purchasers, and community partners from Native and non-native communities nationwide. Growing Justice envisions a future in which Tribal, Indigenous, Black, Latinx, Asian, and immigrant people engaged in food markets as suppliers, producers, distributors, workers, and eaters at community-serving institutions are economically and physically thriving thanks in part to efforts by large community institutions to prioritize equitable good food procurement." https://lnkd.in/g8n6cDJ3

Good Morning TechBabesNZ Community! It’s time to work your magic! ⭐️ You have the opportunity to help an amazing organisation feed hungry tummies in Auckland and Wellington with the incredible initiative Everybody Eats 🥘 By voting for Everybody Eats on this link: https://lnkd.in/gz84YwbF you’ll increase their chances in receiving a share in a grant that will be announced on September 30th by My Giving Circle. It's free to vote and only takes a moment. ✅ Some information about Everybody Eats: Everybody Eats is a remarkable movement that addresses critical issues: food waste, food poverty, and social isolation. 1. Alleviating Food Poverty: Shockingly, one in six Kiwis faces food insecurity. Despite being a developed nation, New Zealand grapples with food poverty. Everybody Eats steps in by providing restaurant-quality, three-course meals to those in need. For every $10 raised, they can serve three such meals, making a tangible impact. 2. Reducing Food Waste: Globally, around one-third of the food produced ends up uneaten. In New Zealand, this wastage contributes to harmful greenhouse gases like methane. By rescuing perfectly good food that would otherwise be discarded, Everybody Eats plays a vital role in minimising food waste. 3. Building Community: Our society has become increasingly fragmented, and social isolation is a growing concern. Everybody Eats creates welcoming spaces where people from diverse backgrounds come together. Shared tables, friendly volunteers, and delicious meals foster connections, trust, and a sense of community. 4. Reducing Desperation: When people struggle to find food, they may resort to desperate measures, such as theft or unsafe food sources. By providing reliable meals, Everybody Eats reduces desperation and promotes community safety. Further information about Everybody Eats can be found on their website: https://everybodyeats.nz/ In summary, backing Everybody Eats isn’t just about food—it’s about compassion, empowerment, and building a stronger, more resilient community. 🌟🍽️🤝 #EverybodyEats #MakingAnImpact #NewZealand Urisha Sing

The Youth Action Fund was established to transform the life chances of disadvantaged youth in Scotland. Engagement can be a challenge, with young people hesitant to fully participate in society and wary of authority. To meaningfully connect, a tailored approach is key. That’s where the Youth Action Fund comes in. Many young individuals, especially those facing the harsh realities of generational worklessness and poverty, find themselves cut off from mainstream services like school and clubs. This isolation, coupled with economic challenges, leaves them ill-equipped for success. That’s why the Youth Action Fund is so crucial. It acknowledges these hurdles, whether it’s the discouragement from seeking legitimate employment due to benefit reductions, struggles with structured environments like school, or the lack of access to affordable, positive activities. By addressing these barriers, and supporting young people to overcome them, we’re empowering them to thrive in all aspects of life. Atom Brands The Glenrothes J. & G. [ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.] —Ralph Strayhorn, Chairman & and CEO of New Republic Partners, has been appointed as the Chair of the Board for the Golden LEAF Foundation. Ralph Strayhorn succeeds Don Flow, who served two consecutive terms in the position and was elected in recognition of his outstanding leadership and commitment. Ralph Strayhorn, assuming the position of Board Chair, stated, “The Board is grateful for the leadership, insight, and service of Don Flow. During Don’s tenure as Board Chair, the Golden LEAF Board awarded more than $207 million in funding to support the long-term economic advancement of North Carolina. He led the Board when it provided funding for three transformative job creation projects resulting in Toyota, VinFast, and Wolfspeed building manufacturing plants in North Carolina. These projects will create thousands of jobs and billions in capital investment. Don also championed a strategic plan for agriculture, called NC Ag Leads, and supported Golden LEAF in implementing state-appropriated funding for programs that will help with flood mitigation and food distribution assistance.” Ralph Strayhorn expressed his commitment to building upon the Foundation's legacy, stating, “I am honored to assume the role of Board Chair for the Golden LEAF Foundation. Building upon the incredible foundation laid by Don Flow, I look forward to advancing the Foundation's mission and contributing to the continued economic growth and prosperity of North Carolina's communities.” About Golden LEAF Foundation: The Golden LEAF Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1999 to receive a portion of North Carolina’s funding from the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement with cigarette manufacturers. For nearly 25 years, Golden LEAF has worked to increase economic opportunity in North Carolina’s rural and tobacco-dependent communities through leadership in grantmaking, collaboration, innovation, and stewardship as an independent and perpetual foundation. The Foundation has provided a lasting impact on tobacco-dependent, economically distressed, and rural areas of the state by helping create 68,000 jobs, more than $780 million in new payrolls, and more than 98,000 workers trained or retrained for higher wages. The Foundation recently received a $10 million appropriation from the N.C. General Assembly for the Food Distribution Assistance Program, funded by federal State Fiscal Recovery Funds through the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. This program aims to support nonprofit organizations in becoming eligible partners of North Carolina food banks or expanding the capacity of current partner agencies. Additionally, grants will be provided to organizations for the establishment or enhancement of school-based weekend food assistance programs. For more information, please visit goldenleaf.org.

True nonprofit growth or expansion happens when we acknowledge food as a human right for all, delivered in the way people define DIGNITY for themselves. 🍽️ A government leader asked if I wanted to expand across Pennsylvania or the nation. I replied, "Our program adapts to the needs of the people. We will never force a community to conform to our program. So, how do you define expand?" Expanding is a delicate issue when fighting hunger. We cannot treat hunger as a business or a platform for our egos. Often, the reality of hunger is misunderstood—it's secretive, heavy, dark, frightening, and political. Hunger is used as tool of power over people in ways most of us will never comprehend, nor dare to explore. It's easy to create solutions for the sake of recognition, accolades, awards, and funding. The real challenge is being a witness to hunger. This requires us to stop and listen with a full heart. It requires hard conversations and the humility to say, "I have it wrong." 🍽️ Food is personal. 🔒 Food is safety. ❤️ Food is love. 💪 Food is empowerment. 🕊️ Food is freedom. #FoodDignity #FoodDignityMovement

We've been doing a lot of listening by calling our customers and potential shareholders and one big issue has been coming up again and again: food insecurity in the context of food waste. How can we have this shocking problem in Australia when 25% of our produce never leaves the farm because its not pretty enough for supermarkets? One of the things we are most proud about at Good & Fugly is growing the impact we can have helping the food insecure by fighting food waste. Especially when it comes to our kids, 1 in 4 of them go to school without enough to eat. And only 1 in 7 kids get enough fruit and veg. With the cost-of-living crisis this is bound to get worse, but it shouldn't have to. This issue has prompted us to do some extra good with our Birchal raise. For every $1,000 raised during the private offer period, we are committing to giving 5 boxes of fruit and veg to disadvantaged schools where food insecurity is a day-to-day reality for their kids.. If you want to get on board, why not check out our page https://lnkd.in/dhQPSE3i The photo is of the proud winners of G&F's contest to find Australia's Fugliest Fruit or Veg --a much-loved primary school garden and the students and teacher who tend it. What a Labour government could mean for the charity sector. Are we going to see increased funding of the charity sector? An interesting read from Investec. Historically, Labour governments have placed an emphasis on social services and public welfare, translating to increased funding for charities, particularly those addressing poverty, homelessness, and social inequality. Keen to have a conversations with clients at charities and hear the thoughts from an internal perspective. Drop me a line on allybyre@michaelpage.com and we can schedule a teams call. #labourgoverment #charitysector
