It was a vibrant, impactful week as Andrew Sullivan, Director of Programs, Rise Against Hunger, during his visit to India, engaged with communities in #Chhattisgarh and #Odisha, witnessing firsthand the rural community empowerment programs. Here’s a glimpse of his journey: 1. Bastar: Empowering Mothers and Resilient Farming Andrew connected with pregnant and lactating mothers at community kitchens in Bastar, part of our 1000 Days Nutrition program, which ensures nutritional support during the first 1000 days of life. He also saw the early progress of our Rainfed to Resilience: Community Irrigation for Sustainable Agriculture under Changing Climate (R2-CISACC) project, which empowers dryland farmers to adopt climate-resilient practices. By facilitating the development of common water sources and promoting water-efficient cropping techniques, the project aims to enhance agricultural productivity, income, and food security within the community. 2. Khairput Block, Malkangiri: Celebrating Community and Enterprise In Khairput, the Annaprasana (first rice-eating) ceremony for young children was celebrated at the community kitchen centers, marking a beautiful tradition. Later, in Mudulipada, discussions with Andrew highlighted the SCALE-SED project, which drives food security by developing sustainable enterprises around non-timber forest products and craft items. An exhibition at Padeiguda displayed the community's hard work and craftsmanship—bringing heritage and livelihoods together. 3. Chandahandi: Building Agri-Safe Communities The visit to Chandahandi, Nabarangpur was with farmers engaged in our Agro Safe project, where trellis and Wadi farming techniques are transforming agricultural practices. In Bharjodi village, mothers running community kitchens showcased traditional recipes, keeping local flavors alive and strengthening cultural ties within their community kitchens. Passionate about leading with a servant’s heart, hundreds of volunteers from Divine Savior Academy hosted four meal packaging events with Rise Against Hunger on October 23 — and the results are outstanding! Students, faculty and staff worked together to package over 100,000 meals across their school campuses in Florida and Texas. Not only have they ensured people facing food insecurity would receive nourishing meals, but they’ve also helped ensure access to quality education as children often receive meals through school feeding programs in the communities we serve. . . #RiseAgainstHunger  #HungerChampions  #ItStartsWithAMeal

As a Rise Against Hunger event coordinator and student currently working toward a Master’s in Public Health, Abbi Pearman had the opportunity to intern at the United Nations Headquarters in New York this summer. In our latest blog, Abbi shares how this enriching experience taught her about collaboration with the United Nations, accessibility and disability inclusion, the Sustainable Development Goals and Rise Against Hunger’s part in these goals.
