Embassy of Belgium in Canada | Ambassade de Belgique au Canada | Ambassade van België in Canada’s Post

Invest agencies across #Canada play a key role in helping Belgian business invest and/or expand in the country. That includes Invest Ottawa, with whom the Embassy has worked closely in the past. Science & Technology is one area where #Belgium and Canada have cooperated closely over the years. Given its role in the Canadian IT & semiconductors ecosystem, and with Belgian players like imec, we look forward to have a larger Belgian footprint in #Ottawa, and see bilateral cooperation increase. Senior Manager, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) at Invest Ottawa

Last week, we had the immense pleasure of hosting Maxime Ramon, Counselor of Economic Affairs and Public Diplomacy at the Belgian Embassy, at Cours Bayview Yards. Our discussion highlighted the robust partnership between Belgium and Canada in the domains of #science and #technology, particularly in #ICT, aerospace, life sciences, agriculture, and sustainable technologies. In 2023, Belgium stood as Canada’s 5th largest trading partner in the EU, with $13.6 billion in bilateral goods and services trade. Moreover, Belgium has been a significant source of foreign direct investment in Canada, with an #FDI stock of $4 billion. Our conversation also delved into the #semiconductor sector, where Ottawa's well-established expertise has fostered an integrated III-IV supply chain encompassing chip design, foundry operations, prototyping, package design, and testing. The Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre (@CPFC), our specialized compound semiconductor foundry, has historical ties to Nortel Networks. The infrastructure and skilled workforce that emerged around Nortel continue to benefit various global players. Prominent companies in III-IV and photonics, such as Ciena, Nokia, Infinera, Lumentum, CISCO, RANOVUS, Marvell, Alphawave, and Infineon (GaN), are driving semiconductor technology advancements in Ottawa. We are excited about the potential for future collaborations and are eager to explore synergies in our key sectors! Invest Ottawa #whyottawa Sadiyah Manidhar Anouchka T.
