Low-hanging fruits are the tastiest of all fruits. I know I've been guilty of overcomplicating forms by using multiple call-to-actions or multi-step opt-ins in the past... decision paralysis is a real conversion killer. I love this simple example of how Bev and her team tweaked their call to action, application steps and follow-up process to dramatically improve the conversion rate of their website. Bev Bury and I recently caught up for a great chat about her role as the CMO at Flinders University. I love the clever things Bev and the team have done to grow their brand over the past couple of years. I especially enjoyed Bev's insights into how her team has lent into the challenger brand aspect of Flinders University. Yesterday marked a pivotal moment in my journey to becoming an accredited Executive Coach through Meyler Campbell‘s Mastered Programme as we entered the second half of our program. It’s amazing how much the depth of our discussions has changed, allowing us to delve deeper into our learning experiences. I can scarcely believe that next year we too will be graduating as the 2024 cohort did last night. What I am particularly enjoying about coaching is the focus on supporting others in finding their own paths to success. It’s not about giving advice or sharing knowledge; it’s about providing leaders with a structured way of thinking that can help break down problems and accelerate development. That said, much of what I am learning relates to my personal journey towards becoming the leader that I aspire to be. I am convinced that in a world of rapid and disruptive change, a manager’s role can no longer be to direct and decide alone—we cannot have all the right answers. Leaders will succeed by drawing out the best in their teams, who will, in turn, learn to adapt and generate fresh, innovative ideas more quickly. So, a few observations from my journey so far: - Listening is the ultimate superpower 🦸. It allows others to feel fully seen and heard while also providing us with valuable insights. It’s also incredibly difficult. - Words, 📖 even chosen in haste, often uncover underlying truths. Clarifying and exploring these phrases can help us find new paths forward. - Learning is a lifelong journey. Changing behavior is challenging, but even small steps can lead to a more significant transformation. If you are in real estate in Central Ohio there was a lot to celebrate this week: 1) A globally recognized manufacturing project, receiving federal support & securing a major new partnership, which brought renewed confidence to a generational opportunity. 2) A leading global employer declaring that culture is not a birthright- its something that need to be worked at & that the office plays a part in strengthening a company’s culture. 3)The Fed cutting it’s rate by half a point-calming some of the major headwinds facing developers & creating momentum to get back to building. And last but not least- the opening of Butcher & Rose for lunch service-which based on today’s attendance will be one of THE spot for a “downtown power lunch”. The future is bright!

The best part of my job is getting to know the companies we work with.   Sometimes when we are REALLY lucky, getting to “know” them involves a Pickleball tournament. If you’ve read my posts, you’ve probably seen me praising Lancaster County. This week we got spend time with Merv King and the team at Beuta. Another Lancaster gem. Getting to work with companies like Beuta is what I love most about my job. They are a talented team with a vision. And they are growing crazy fast! If you like board rooms, bureaucracy, big egos, strong opinions, and slow decision making, then you probably won’t think they are very much. If you like seeing Amish family members working together manufacturing products they believe in. And you like seeing offices with kids art plastered over every inch of wall space. And a tangible excitement about growth and what the future holds. Then like me, you’ll probably think they are totally awesome.

In the immortal words of Bon Jovi - “Woah, we’re halfway there…” Halfway through my secondment with Poppyscotland and what a four months it has been. Over those months, there have been many, many, many day… I’ve distilled them into one of the five different types. 1️⃣ a school day: with new areas of IG to learn about (enjoying raffles and regular giving), and reshaping my love of legacies. New techniques for DM, and different ways of working. 2️⃣ a planning day: planning my time to ensure that I can fit it all that is important, and moving aside the bits which I have absolutely ability to change or impact. 3️⃣ a reflection day: talking with those in my network about what I’ve learned, what’s gone well, what hasn’t, and what would I do differently next time… 4️⃣ a prioritising day: understanding that my priorities, really aren’t everyone else’s priorities, and that their priorities really aren’t mine too. With a little caring and sharing still gets the job done! 5️⃣ a “not today Satan” day. Enough said. I’m looking forward to a few more types of days, as I move into months 5, 6, 7 and 8 - there’s a another song on there somewhere….

If you are confused about the requirements for entries, ask me! If you are having a functional issue with the entry platform, I won't have the answer 😂 but our program wizard, Jessica Ross, will! - and I will get together with her to get your questions answered on those points. I am fundamentally opposed to finding out too late that there was an issue that made a product ineligible for the program, or that materials were incomplete, etc., after the entry fee has been paid. I can't - and won't - influence the judges' evaluations based on materials that are viewed as eligible. But I will make every effort to keep the process fair. Yesterday, Omar Elizondo kicked off our Leadership Power Lunches with an informative and vulnerable discussion at our Oklahoma City luncheon on "Intention and Attitude in a Consolidated Market." It was an engaging session that highlighted the importance of our networks for job hunting and deal-making, the impact of our actions on others, leadership and personal accountability, and the value of intentionality. We also hosted our first SPE Student Intern / E&P Connection mixer at Jones Assembly Hall. Where we got to meet with Joseph Alvarez and Cruz McConnell from Missouri University of Science and Technology. Cruz is interning this summer at Continental Resources, and Joseph however is already an oilman about to drill his first well with his company at Cross Oil.
