Inspiration often comes from unexpected places. For me, it came from a friend—Nagesh B S, Chairman of Shoppers Stop. Back in 2011, as I was launching Bigbasket, Nagesh was busy building something more than a business. He founded TRRAIN (TRUST FOR RETAILERS & RETAIL ASSOCIATES OF INDIA), a movement empowering women from low-income backgrounds and persons with disabilities (PWDs) to find livelihoods through retail. That made me reflect on inclusivity in a whole new light. So I took the inspiration and created a workspace where everyone could efficiently participate and thrive. Women started in our fruits and vegetable sections. Soon, they expanded into all areas of business, including delivery. As for PWDs, they’ve shown us that productivity has nothing to do with physical limitations. Some of our highest-performing employees come from this group. What I’ve learned is that inclusivity isn’t a one-time project. You need to keep the doors open for growth and break down any barriers that stand in the way. This initiative serves to disrupt the system, providing a healthy community space for young kids (especially boys who so sorely need positive stimulus like this in our digital age). CO-CREATE WITH THE COMMUNITY YOU WISH TO SERVE: ✅ They have co-created with the local community (Communities First Foundation), to refurbish the previously disheveled Selhurst Sports Arenain Croydon London, building #Merky FC HQ from scratch into a state-of-the-art football center. I was lucky enough to speak at the Everything in Sport: Women's Edition last week. Discussion subjects ranged from commercial strategy to governance to athlete welfare, and lots more in between. With buckets of expertise and experience present from across the industry, the key takeaway was that women's sport, as an entity, is still at the start of its growth journey and the focus for all stakeholders should be eyeballs, eyeballs, eyeballs!    If we provide a big enough shop window for athletes and their stories, and are laser-focused on increasing audience share, there is a real opportunity to create a value cycle that delivers for all parties. I'm so proud of our Raidiant team and the work we do to present Calling All Heroes, one of the largest esports tournaments for women on the planet. These viewership numbers are staggering, with upwards of 60K people watching at any given time. The impact we're making for women and marginalized genders is unmatched. And yet - we struggle to find partners. Honest question - why is that? The amazing partners that we do have recognize that we provide scale, credibility and a meaningful way to reach new communities. Isn't that what marketing is all about - finding new eyeballs to sample and drive loyalty and conversions to your product? These tournaments are the perfect way to "sample" an esports partnership, offering a low-risk, high-reward opportunity to gain the numerous benefits that engaging with this audience can bring to a brand. I have thoughts and I'm genuinely curious for yours (and may be opening up a rabbit hole, but here goes...). With these numbers, why does women's esports struggle to find the right partners - especially given where we are now with traditional sports?
