When GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) announced plans to cease operations in Nigeria, many people blamed the government but I said this is an opportunity for local pharmaceutical companies to expand their operations in the country because this is the way things are done in Indonesia, unfortunately, many disagreed with me then. Fortunately, MeCure Healthcare Limited, a pharmaceutical company in Nigeria, has revealed that it has secured approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to launch the production of the first locally manufactured alternative Amoxicillin-Clavulanic acid tablets, Amoxyclav 625mg in the first quarter of 2024. The company commenced local production after NAFDAC’s final approval to transition the product’s sourcing status from “import” to “locally produced” and was obtained on April 30, paving the way for sales of the product to commence. MeCure Industries has constructed a Corticosteroid manufacturing plant, nearing completion with a 90% rate achieved as of the first quarter of 2024 and the manufacturing plant is aligned with the standards set by the Beta-lactam plant. MeCure Healthcare Limited has also embraced “innovative technol technology” by launching a “state-of-the-art Track and Trace Solution,” becoming the first pharmaceutical manufacturing company in Nigeria to adopt this advanced system. Mecure is a member of the Mecure Group and has four sister companies – Mecure Healthcare Limited (engaged in diagnostics), Mecure Infraproject Limited, Mecure Smart Buy Limited, and Mecure Wecare Limited. No government would be happy with foreign companies leaving the country but when they leave that opens opportunities for the local companies to expand their operations because the market is still there, and the foreign companies are not leaving the market. They can never take the market along with them. Then it is left for the local companies to take advantage of the market to expand their operations. Multinational companies in Nigeria don't source their raw materials locally and that's why foreign exchange scarcity is hurting their capacity to import raw materials badly. Through local sourcing, multinationals can save on import costs, preserve foreign exchange and contribute to the economic development of the country. Fortunately, some of them have started investing in local sourcing through the backward integration programme. In Indonesia, foreign companies must source more than 75% of inputs for projects locally. #GodBlessNigeria #MayTinubuSucceed

Helping Pharmaceutical Companies Expand in the African Region | Sales Executive at Informa Markets | Driving Growth and Opportunities
🌍 A New Dawn for Nigeria's Health Sector! 🌍 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took a monumental step towards revitalizing Nigeria's healthcare landscape by signing an Executive Order that introduces zero tariffs, excise duties, and VAT on imported pharmaceutical products. This initiative is designed to boost local pharmaceutical production, reduce the soaring costs of essential medical supplies, and enhance access to quality healthcare for all Nigerians. Key Highlights of the Executive Order: Tax Exemptions: The removal of all tariffs and taxes on essential pharmaceutical raw materials, including Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and excipients, which are critical for drug manufacturing. Enhanced Local Production: The Order creates market-shaping mechanisms like framework contracts and volume guarantees, providing significant support to local pharmaceutical manufacturers. Collaborative Implementation: Coordinated efforts mandated among various government bodies, including the Ministries of Health and Trade along with agencies like NCS and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ensure swift and efficient execution. As we look forward to Pharmaconex West Africa 2025, this progressive policy sets the stage for unprecedented growth and collaboration in the pharmaceutical industry across the region. This is a unique opportunity for stakeholders to explore new horizons, forge strategic partnerships, and contribute to the transformation of healthcare in Nigeria and beyond. 🚀 Save the Dates: April 16-18, 2025 📍 Location: Landmark Centre, Lagos, Nigeria 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dJHQx4aJ Join us at Pharmaconex West Africa 2025 to be a part of this transformative journey. "Tunisia, North Africa's smallest nation, boasts a strategic location bordered by Algeria to the west, Libya to the southeast, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north and east. Renowned for its sophisticated management and advanced technologies in the pharmaceutical sector, Tunisia excels in ensuring top-notch product quality and safety. Impressively, nearly half of the country's pharmaceuticals—about 49%—are locally produced, while the remaining 51% are imported. Key regions like Tunis (the capital), Sfax, Sousse, Ettadhamen, Kairouan, and Gabès play vital roles in Tunisia's pharmaceutical landscape. With approximately 39 pharmaceutical companies in Tunis alone, the country strongly promotes the local production of generic medicines, fostering its healthcare ecosystem." #Tunisia #NorthAfrica #PharmaceuticalSector #Healthcare #LocalProduction #AdvancedTechnologies #ProductQuality #Safety #Tunis #Sfax #Sousse #Ettadhamen #Kairouan #Gabès #ImportedMedicines #GenericMedicines Key Players • Adwya • Sanofi (Sanofi-Aventis Tunisia) • Teriak • Opalia pharma • Les Echos Laboratoires UNIMED ➡ 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐃𝐅>https://lnkd.in/eNmz9UmR

China, pharmacy of the world, wants to monopolize African pharmaceutical market. China's plan to expand the pharmaceutical industry along the “Silk Road of Health”- the trade and investment routes created by the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)- took a step forward on Monday when Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical announced that the first phase of its new manufacturing plant in Ivory Coast will be completed by the end of this year. Côte d'Ivoire, located on the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, has earned a renowned reputation throughout the African continent for its outstanding achievements in economic development. Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d'Ivoire, is known as the “Paris of West Africa” for its unique charm. Fosun Pharma's Côte d'Ivoire park project launched in November 2022. In 2016, Xi Jinping in formally proposed to joint contribute Health Silk Road when visited Uzbekistan. 2017, China signed a memorandum with the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote co-operation among BRI partner countries and other key partners to build the Health Silk Road. Hi there 👋 The Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria (PANS), University of Jos Chapter, presents the #PANS_Week’24_Hackathon aimed at combating the pressing issue of medication inflation in Nigeria. The departure of influential pharmaceutical companies, notably Procter & Gambles (P & G), Safoni, Unilevar and Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), has led to a scarcity and inflation of essential medications, including vaccines and antibiotics like Augmentin and other pharmaceutical products. These departures were brought about by a combination of factors, primarily Nigeria’s economic problems and foreign currency crises. This exodus has exacerbated an already fragile healthcare system, posing a significant threat to public health and well-being. As a Pharmacy student who will graduate into this profession, you are invited to participate in this hackathon competition; to develop innovative solutions that ensure continued access to affordable and quality medications for Nigerians, despite the departure of these key pharmaceutical industries. #Signed Kadiri Friday Fred (Hackathon Chairman) Gideon Rambomg (Pans president)
