Unlocking innovation through validating ideas, finding problem-solution fit and product-market fit, instilling learning, experimentation and reflection culture and government funding
Is your product development process feeling like a shot in the dark? It's time for a change - turn to data-driven research. In the rapidly evolving market, intuition can only get you so far. Integrating structured research, experimentation and testing into your product development can significantly reduce risks and increase the probability of your product meeting its market fit. From understanding user needs to validating your hypotheses, research serves as the backbone of innovation. Start incorporating user feedback, market analysis, and prototype testing early in the process. This not only saves resources but also ensures that your product is built on solid ground. Remember, every piece of data is a stepping stone towards building products that not only meet but exceed customer expectations. #ProductDevelopment #Research #Innovation

𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐔𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭? Here are two key considerations: 1) 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩-𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡: Prioritize your research efforts based on the design's complexity, associated risks, and innovation level. 2) 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡: Implementing a continuous research process can drastically cut down the time from research to feedback. By focusing on these strategies, you can optimize your product's journey from concept to customer without compromising on insight or speed. #ProductManagement #UserResearch #stephenwang

Are you making an impact as a product or experience designer within your business? How are you validating that impact? For anyone interested in the likelihood of success with new initiatives, it’s well worth a read of Optimzely’s report that looks at the results of 127,000 tests conducted through their platform. https://lnkd.in/gyfntcGh What do they tell us? “88% of tests do not win” –they either have no impact, or even have a negative impact on the metric of interest. Only 12% ‘win’ “Less than 10% of experiments test 4 or more variations, but see 2x impact” “The top 5% of experiments that companies run are responsible for around 50% of the impact” My thoughts? Whether we’re talking about digital or real world interventions we need to be more focused on impact – it’s what we should be judged upon, and it’s also about finding out where is the best use of resources. Designing an intervention, testing in a small scale situation and then moving on to the next project feels like a recipe for long-term disaster.

We know users are at the heart of exceptional digital experiences. But when it comes to research, which approach is best for your project—generative or evaluative? Whether developing a new idea or refining an existing product, knowing the right research method can make the difference between good and great digital products. #generativeresearch #evaluativeresearch #usercentreddigitaldesign

There's an interesting ongoing debate among professionals who do customer research. The Jobs-to-Be-Done camp often proclaims that "there is no such thing as a latent unarticulated need." My friends in design thinking often vehemently disagree. Who's right? Both are right. I think a more nuanced statement that captures the truth of both camps is that "Yes, there are latent unarticulated needs UNTIL we ask the right questions and make them conscious and easy to articulate." JTBD makes latent unarticulated needs conscious and easy to articulate. What do you think? Want to learn more? This is foundational! I love how this is broken down so that laypeople can wrap their head around it. A lot of us in the product world take for granted that things like experimentation and idea validation are common knowledge, but that's a bad assumption. This cheat sheet is a great resource to make sure your key stakeholders are in the same page.
Testing Business Ideas: The Ultimate Validation Experiments Library 📌 Here's your ultimate validation experiments library: 1. Validation Experiments ↳ Test assumptions before you build ↳ Save time, money, and heartache 2. Market Engagement ↳ Get real feedback from real people ↳ Understand your audience before launch 3. Minimal Products ↳ Build just enough to test your concept ↳ Iterate based on user feedback 4. Feasibility Prototypes ↳ Prove it can be done ↳ Technical validation is crucial 5. User Prototypes ↳ Put it in front of potential customers ↳ Watch how they interact with your idea 6. Experiments in Production ↳ Test in the real world ↳ Gather data from actual usage 7. Recommended Tools ↳ Leverage the right tech for testing ↳ Work smarter, not harder Remember: Ideas are cheap. Execution is everything. But smart execution starts with validation. 💡 Don't waste months building something nobody wants. Test, learn, adapt. Rinse and repeat. That's how you build a business that lasts.
