Who is looking for job seekers? In my latest Business Insider story, I examine how the hiring landscape has changed in the leisure and hospitality industry and other areas of the labor market, like healthcare and the government. "I think the very high government payrolls number is a further testament to how much weaker things have gotten on the private sector side," Julia Pollak, chief economist at ZipRecruiter, said. "The government has been trying to rehire for years and struggling because the private sector was so strong. Now, people are falling back on those safer government jobs." You can read more about the labor market in the story below.

Restaurants and hotels were helping power the booming job market. Now, they're barely hiring.

The market has been bad for more than a year in the white collar space, though this varies by area and geography. We were due, it's been 2009 since the last real job market downturn. Also, www.ClearAs.org has the best and easiest to follow job search program and all it's files are free at www.JobSeeker.Training Good luck to all.

These markets are changing. The rise of alternatives to hotels for short term lodging may have weakened that market. Similarly, the growth of drive-thru, and delivery options means less staff needed in restaurants. Increases in wages don’t help fill traditionally lower paying jobs and neither does the increases in costs over the past few years. Traveling and eating may now be seen as the luxuries they once were. That’s a lot of headwinds against those two sectors.

Elevate your hospitality, nurture your team! Unfortunately, it seems that some hotels and restaurants have lost sight of this fundamental principle. They've become so focused on profits that they've forgotten the importance of providing a truly warm and welcoming experience. The staff are the heart and soul of any hospitality business. When they're overworked, undervalued, and disconnected from the mission of hospitality, it shows in the service. We need to remember that basic, attentive service is the bare minimum that customers should expect. True hospitality goes beyond that - it's about making people feel genuinely cared for and appreciated. That's what keeps customers coming back, and what turns a transaction into a meaningful experience. It's time for the hospitality industry to refocus on the essence of what they do.

And yet, in the southern New Jersey Shore, hotels, retail, restaurants and attractions have summer ( and some year round) jobs, but can't find good help.
