Group Head of Talent and Performance | Driving Organisational Excellence through Strategic Talent Management and Performance Optimisation.
I was absolutely delighted to be invited to be part of the first Azets Live Round Table celebrating Pride Month in the UK, in fact we recorded it only last week in July, because Pride isn't just one month (in fact not all of the countries in Azets celebrate in June - they do so on other dates), but importantly its something we should be celebrating and speaking about every month (alongside many other important topics). a massive thank you to Julie Gunnell for being an amazing host and ally. ❗ ❗ ❗ A couple of things really struck me being involved in this short but impactful session:- 1. Its not an easy thing putting yourself out there and discussing your struggles and challenges - but we did it, because its important for people to see that real people are behind these things and perhaps our stories can help another person going through similar! Shaun Croxall & Amber Yates (my partners in crime) were brave and inspirational sharing their stories, I was very proud to do this with you! 💖 2. People are truly interested in listening and learning how to become Allies - we had amazing engagement from people, good questions and good wishes - we really appreciated all of them! 🙌 3. Maybe just maybe we can help another human being just by being our authentic selves and sharing a little bit of ourselves. There is so much more I could say, but I want to say thank you to everyone who attended, those who have sent their wishes, their questions and offered a hand of support. And to those people in the LGBTQ+ community don't suffer in silence, there are those who want to help, give support and be your ally. To those of you who want to be allies, ill share what I shared with our colleagues..... 🌈 Be an Ally: Actively show support for LGBTQ+ rights and issues. This can be as simple as using inclusive language, wearing pride symbols, or participating in LGBTQ+ events and initiatives. 🌈 Listen and Learn: Take the time to listen to and understand the experiences and challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. Educate yourself about LGBTQ+ issues and be open to learning from others. 🌈 Challenge Discrimination: Speak up against any form of discrimination or insensitive remarks, even if they seem minor. Your support can make a big difference in creating a respectful and accepting workplace. 🌈 Promote Inclusivity: Advocate for policies and practices that promote inclusivity and support our networks. 🌈 Offer Support: Let your LGBTQ+ colleagues know that they have your support. Sometimes, a simple expression of solidarity can make a big impact. By taking these actions, non-LGBTQ+ colleagues can help create a more inclusive and supportive environment. Finally, a massive shout out to the #AuthenicallyAzets network group, you are doing amazing things and to Rebecca Flynn & Samantha Graham for supporting with the event!!!! And of course to Jordan Evans our IT superhero - Thank you #Azets #Pride
It was a proud moment to watch our first Azets Live Round Table event hosted by Julie Gunnell, who spoke to David Whitson-Black, Amber Yates and Shaun Croxall. As part of our Authentically Azets Pride Month celebrations, our colleagues discussed how they navigate being part of the LGBT+ community, what they would say to their younger selves and what advice they would give to their colleagues when it comes to understanding and supporting their LGBT+ colleagues. It was wonderful to hear how comfortable all three feel working at Azets and we now know that all questions are welcome and that being an ally is about asking those questions. Multilingual Global Equity Educator & Public Speaker |UN Women UK | 🏳️🌈 Stonewall Role Model | Diversity Power List 2023/24, Power list 2021 | Founder of Pride in Education, UK Queer Arabs & Proud London Councils
It’s emotionally draining having to educate, and re-educate people, having to face ignorance and bigotry. The emotional toll of activism for individuals with intersectional identities can be significant. We often face the burden of advocating for multiple marginalised communities simultaneously, which can lead to feelings of exhaustion, frustration, and burnout. Additionally, we may experience heightened levels of stress, anxiety, and even trauma due to encountering various forms of discrimination and oppression within society and sometimes even within activist spaces. Balancing activism with self-care becomes crucial for maintaining mental and emotional well-being but so much to do it’s not always easy to implement Sending love and strength to everyone advocating for and on behalf of marginalised, racialised , stigmatised and under served communities
Earlier today, we unfortunately received these vitriol comments on our Twitter account from someone in the #LGBTQ+ community in response to our LGBT+ History Month post. Our response to the right. 2024 and there is still so much work to do! 😶🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️.

How could you be a better Ally to LGBT+ coworkers? Here are a few ideas: 1. Show support by participating in events. Active involvement helps create an inclusive workplace. 2. Never disclose someone's LGBT+ identity without consent. Prioritise their well-being and autonomy. 3. Engage in one-on-one conversations with LGBT+ colleagues to understand their perspectives. 4. Be aware of potential safety concerns for LGBT+ individuals travelling for work to countries with threatened LGBT+ rights. 5. Examine internal processes for hiring, mentoring, and promoting. Strive for fair opportunities and create diverse and inclusive teams. #LGBTjobs #Allyship #LGBTCareerOpportunities #Jobboard #InclusiveRecruitment

Facing homelessness and having to find suitable private rental accommodation is already incredibly hard. For someone who identifies as LGBTQ+ this challenge is often magnified. It's not just about finding a place to stay, but finding a home with roommates, landlords, and a local area that is LGBTQ+ friendly. The importance of safety and security cannot be overstated. It's crucial to find somewhere you can live comfortably and authentically as yourself. Your home should be a place of refuge where you feel respected and accepted. If you’re thinking about listing a room or know someone who is, think about how to advertise this in as much of an inclusive way as is possible . Also, have discussions with those around you about what more can be done to make people feel welcomed and safe. #LGBTQ #Homelessness #SafeHousing #InclusiveCommunity

On the way to the full realisation of human rights for the LGBTIQ community in Australia. One more step forward. More steps to go.
NEWS: The passing of the Bill in NSW Parliament to ban so-called ‘LGBTQ+ Conversion Practices’ is a huge achievement for our communities. It is long overdue reform that will ensure LGBTQ+ people are accepted and valued for who they are – and that they’re no longer told they’re ‘broken’ or need ‘fixing’. We commend all who have worked so hard to get this legislation passed. With the passing of this Bill, New South Wales is now a better, safer place for our communities – so to everyone who has played a role in making that happen, we thank you.
