#Africa holds a pivotal role in achieving the global #3xRenewables goal Bruce Douglas, CEO of GRA, highlighted that it is time for action to unlock finance and create supportive policies to facilitate the Africa's renewable energy transition at the #Time4Action press conference at #BETD24. “De-risking renewable investments, especially in emerging economies, is now a crucial step to delivering on the global target. The global south is where we must see massive upscaling of renewables deployment in order for the energy transition to be just and equitable; and it needs to happen now," said Bruce Douglas. Renewables are reshaping the energy landscape, proving to be more than just environmentally friendly but economically advantageous too. A recent report by IRENA reveals the transformative impact of renewable power generation in 2020: 🌿 162 GW of added renewable power costs undercutting the cheapest fossil fuel option - a doubling from previous years. 🌿 Costs dropping significantly for technologies like onshore wind, offshore wind, CSP, and solar PV, offering affordable and sustainable energy alternatives. 🌿 Low-cost renewables not only outcompeting existing coal but creating a strong case for countries to transition to a net-zero economy. The report emphasizes the substantial cost savings of USD 156 billion to emerging economies over these projects' lifespan. This shift towards renewables not only saves money but also boosts job creation, economic growth, and supports climate goals. As we witness this monumental shift in the energy sector, it beckons us to consider the possibilities and implications of this sustainable transition. How do you feel about the increasing affordability and attractiveness of renewable energy sources over traditional fossil fuels? Share your thoughts and let's spark a conversation on the future of clean energy. https://lnkd.in/eESy7y69

As #COP28 comes to an end, we look back on a decade of progress for renewable energy. Total global capacity tripled between 2014 and 2022, and global investment in clean energy has risen by 40% since 2020, overtaking fossil energy. In the first half of 2023, new investment in renewables globally jumped to USD 358 billion – the highest figure ever recorded for a six month period. Our latest report, looking at the pace of the clean energy transition, shows that change is happening faster than we think. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eFKKCkzw #COP28UAE #renewables

A recent report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) highlights a noteworthy 50% growth in renewable energy capacity in 2023, representing a substantial stride towards sustainability. Despite indications that we may fall short of the goal to triple renewables by 2030, the report suggests a 2.5 times increase. Still, this poses significant challenges for the energy system, escalating the demand for flexible users. "A critical moment," says GWEC CEO Ben Backwell about the Global Renewables Summit, being organised by the Global Renewables Alliance and its member organisations, including the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) Council. "GWEC is delighted to be working with our partners in the Global Renewables Alliance to host the first-ever public-private summit drawing together leaders from across the energy transition. The tripling target agreed at COP28 has set the goal, but it is now on all of us to work together and deliver the action that realises this ambition. "The wind industry is ready to deliver, wind energy is a mature technology that has proven it can deliver clean energy, clean industry and clean jobs. It is crucial that government and industry collaborate to drive action on finance, permits, grids and supply chains that launches a race to the top and delivers transformative action across the world. "The Global Renewables Summit is a critical moment to unite key stakeholders from industry, government, international organisations, NGOs, philanthropy, and COP and kick-start the renewables era and build a confident green world." 🌍 Exciting News! 🌞 The world added 50% more renewable energy in 2023 than in 2022, putting the global goal of tripling clean energy within reach. The International Energy Agency's analysis found that renewables are tracking to increase by two-and-a-half times this decade, largely driven by solar power. This boost is a significant step towards combating climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Key Takeaways: Renewable energy on track to increase by two-and-a-half times this decade, largely driven by solar power. China, the world's largest polluter, saw a rapid expansion in the clean energy sector with significant increases in solar and wind power. The United States also announced that solar power would lead growth in electricity generation through 2025. The progress and commitments made at the Cop28 climate summit are encouraging, but there are still challenges to overcome. Rapidly scaling up financing and deployment of renewables in emerging and developing economies will be crucial for meeting the tripling goal. The shift towards renewables is not only a positive step for the environment but also presents opportunities for innovation and growth in the clean energy sector. Let's continue to support and drive this momentum towards a more sustainable future for our planet! 🌿💡 #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #ClimateAction #Sustainability #SolarPower #WindPower #GlobalGoals

Renewable Energy Capacity experienced its strongest growth in decades in 2023, with a 510 GW increase in global capacity additions in the year, up by 50% over 2022. In this trend, China is emerging as a key driver of the global growth, according to a new report released by the International Energy Agency’s (IEA). With this increase, the world is now on track to grow renewables capacity by 2.5x by 2030, putting the global goal established at the COP28 climate conference to triple renewable energy capacity by the end of the decade within reach, and to overtake coal as the largest source of global electricity generation by early 2025. Other regions apart from China that reached record renewable energy capacity increases included the U.S., EU, and Brazil, each of which are also expected to see solar PV and wind deployment more than double from 2023-2028 compared to the prior 5-year period.
