California provides no vouchers for private school, and for low-income families, the cost of private school is quickly becoming impossible. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the average cost of K-12 private school #education would breach $500,000 for a single child. We believe all students deserve a learning environment they love--not just those who can afford it. And with our recent expansion into preschool support, we're giving students new opportunities right from the beginning. A new way to fund state schools - a generous donation similar to the Guild and Faith systems of extra funding for state schools but with more money for one school. I am surprised that the unforeseen consequences, mentioned here, are not seen by someone with such a clear vision of a future world; it makes one wonder if they have any real understanding about state schools, their funding and their impact on each other and the local community. The recent reports by the Sutton Trust on the disparity between schools in rich and poor areas would, perhaps, be worth sharing with the donors. Isn’t this the sort of funding that every school and every child deserves? - to learn in an environment as described here and to receive a high quality of education appropriately funded.

Did you know? 1 in 5 college students is a parent. Fewer than 2% of teen mothers earn a college degree before the age 30. And more than half of all parenting college students leave school without a degree. It's time to change the narrative, and ensure every parent has the opportunity to graduate and thrive! Generation Hope supports parenting college students as they pursue college degrees! We provide each student in our program, whom we call "Scholars," with a 1-1 mentor, a Hope Coach (case manager), tuition assistance (up to $2400 annually) and so much more! This #GiveNOLADay, you can support Generation Hope - New Orleans in building our Tuition Subsidy Fund! Generation Hope's mentoring model requires that our Sponsors be not only givers of time but also treasure, since we ask our Sponsors (mentors) to fund their mentee's Scholarship ($1200-$2400 annually). But not all Sponsors have these funds, and we do not want to derail anyone with a big heart who's willing to commit to mentoring from being able to do so.That's why we're raising money this #GiveNOLADay for our Tuition Subsidy Fund. Two-thirds (2/3) of our current NOLA Sponsors are "mentor-only," meaning they are supporting their Scholars through dedicated one-on-one monthly meetings but that their Scholarships are funded by non-mentor donors? The Tuition Subsidy Fund has been crucial to our ability to recruit mentors - particularly mentors with lived experience as student parents - and we know it will be crucial to finding the best mentors out there to match with our Scholars in this upcoming year.
