Terrence Higgins Trust and over twenty other HIV and sexual health charities have joined forces to call on the next government to seize the chance end new cases of HIV by 2030. They are calling for: 1. an expansion of opt-out HIV testing to GPs 2. the introduction of a national one-stop-shop online PrEP, HIV and STI postal testing service 3. the creation of a national re-engagement programme for people living with HIV who are not in care 4. the provision of year-on-year, above inflation increase to public health funding 5. the development of a national sexual health strategy 6. justice for those impacted by the contaminated blood scandal But there are less than 6 weeks until polls open and the UK elects the parliament that will have the chance to make this historic goal a reality. Day Five of #NPHW is focused on reproductive and sexual health. Access to quality and appropriate reproductive and sexual health care is essential to leading a healthy life. Unfortunately, with over 500 bills being introduced in 2023 alone, these rights are under attack. How can you make a difference? 1. Get screened for cancers and tested for HIV/STIs. Did you know that CG Public Health has implemented an eXpress testing program for HIV/STI testing? This testing is for individuals deemed lower risk for testing positive for HIV/STIs. 2. Practice safe sex and reduce the risk of spreading STIs! 3. Donate menstrual products to local shelters and schools. Did you know that many students are experiencing period poverty? Meaning they do not have the funds to access necessary items for their monthly cycle. Often teachers are supporting this need with their own finances. Consider dropping off some period products at your local school or shelter! 4. Advocate! Become informed on the hundreds of bills that could be passed. Challenges such as funding shortages, capacity challenges, and crackdowns on civil society and on the human rights of marginalized communities obstruct the progress of HIV prevention and treatment services. Allied Services recommits to the vision of an HIV-responsive community by making it possible for millions of people and organizations to transport aid swiftly and efficiently to those in need. During the on going #ICASA2023 l got the chance to attend a session on the initiatives that have been put in place to end HIV related stigma and discrimination. As NAC Zimbabwe our vision is to have a Zimbabwe free from HIV infections, STIGMA and AIDS related deaths by 2030. This session discussed how as countries we are able to work towards such goals. With the help of the HIV stigma index countries are able to track the rates of stigma. The session shared about the different studies which have been conducted among PLHIV including KVPs. These studies have shown that KVPs living with HIV go through what is called intersectional stigma as they are already stigmatised for being KVPs. The session encouraged the involvement of communities to address stigma as we are saying “Let communities lead”. This can be done by increasing the number of community partnerships and having stigma and discrimination criminalised. Working with FBOs to teach and advocate against stigma. A staggering 210,000 adolescent girls and young women (aged 15-24) in sub-Saharan Africa contracted HIV in 2022 alone, according to the UN. This critical issue demands ongoing action. That's why we're proud to partner with the Kaana Foundation For Outreach Programs. This non-profit empowers young people, women, and children affected by HIV and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) challenges. Their work directly contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), while supporting the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets for HIV treatment.
