Increased education correlates with increased contraceptive use and less underage premarital sex, which means lower HIV/AIDS risk. In developing countries, secondary education is associated with an increase in girl’s knowledge of HIV/AIDS by one-fifth compared to those with low or no education. We at the Casey Foundation Africa are on a mission to enlighten girls about the use of contraceptives and in turn reduce the risk of HIV among teens. Day Five of #NPHW is focused on reproductive and sexual health. Access to quality and appropriate reproductive and sexual health care is essential to leading a healthy life. Unfortunately, with over 500 bills being introduced in 2023 alone, these rights are under attack. How can you make a difference? 1. Get screened for cancers and tested for HIV/STIs. Did you know that CG Public Health has implemented an eXpress testing program for HIV/STI testing? This testing is for individuals deemed lower risk for testing positive for HIV/STIs. 2. Practice safe sex and reduce the risk of spreading STIs! 3. Donate menstrual products to local shelters and schools. Did you know that many students are experiencing period poverty? Meaning they do not have the funds to access necessary items for their monthly cycle. Often teachers are supporting this need with their own finances. Consider dropping off some period products at your local school or shelter! 4. Advocate! Become informed on the hundreds of bills that could be passed. Speak out and up! #NPHW2024 #PublicHealth #ReproductiveRights #ReproductiveandSexualHealth

Raising awareness about HIV and debunking harmful misconceptions is crucial to combat GBV and sexual violence within communities. The belief that raping a virgin child can cure HIV is not only false but also extremely dangerous. It's alarming that such beliefs still persist in some communities even in 2023/2024. We must do more to educate and empower communities to understand the realities of HIV transmission and prevention. Let's work together to promote accurate information and put an end to harmful practices that perpetuate violence and discrimination!

HIV and the law. If you are living with HIV and somebody tells somebody else your status without consent this is breaking your confidentiality and you are protected by law. It may seem daunting but this is a great read on the law and HIV status. This post also highlights that despite funding cuts and organisations like this not being able to continue you can see the information they provided was a huge asset to the HIV community and organisations who like us often signposted people to this site. Community support still changes lives and is an important part of an HIV journey, therefore funding is so very important please support local organisations where and when you can #HIVcommunity #HIVcharities #fundingcutshurtsrealpeople #supportyourlocalHIVorganisation #localcharity #BPDorset

“Struggle is a never ending process. Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation.” —Coretta Scott King
Did you know? Today February 7th is National Black HIV / AIDS Awareness Day. While Black people comprise only 13% of the U.S. population, they represent 40% of those living with HIV. A recent study out of Vanderbilt University Medical Center showed that Black women continue to suffer the highest rates of mortality among people living with HIV, followed by Black men. So let’s work together to end the HIV epidemic and shed light on systemic racism and disparities in healthcare to create true diversity, equity and inclusion to eliminate not just the virus but the stigma as well. https://lnkd.in/gfyfEgZn #nationalblackhivaidsawarenessday #endthestigma #stopthevirus #endingtheHIVepidemic #BlackHistoryMonth #hivawareness #hivprevention #advocacy #advocate

#EndHIVBy2030 #EndViolenceAgainstAGYW 📢It is impossible to talk about HIV/AIDS without talking about domestic & Sexual violence towards AGYW,who account for over 75% of HIV infections. 📌These high rates in AGYW have brought into sharp focus on the linkages between HIV/AIDS and; a) Intimate partner violence b) Violence against women in conflict settings c) Violence against sex workers and d) Trafficking of women & girls. ♻️This calls for an urgent need to integrate programming for violence against AGYW with HIV prevention & AIDS treatment & care & also protect & promote their right to be healthy & free from violence.

Effectively combating sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls, while also challenging toxic masculinity and patriarchal norms within our communities, requires active engagement of both men and boys. This transformative journey must begin within our homes, where parents serve as the primary agents of change. It's crucial to acknowledge the undeniable link between gender-based violence and HIV. Many women and girls find themselves trapped in harmful relationships as a means of escape from violence, exacerbating the risk and impact of HIV transmission.
