“The transition will not happen at a pace at which it needs to happen if all actors do not commit” This is what our Policy Director, Gabrielė Šimakauskaitė, emphasized yesterday at the Conference on the EU Automotive Ecosystem, hosted by the #HU24EU alongside European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). During the panel on "Accelerating E-Mobility in the EU: Key Priorities and Challenges," Gabriele dove into ChargeUp Europe's vision for scaling recharging infrastructure across the EU, highlighting the importance of legal certainty for the competitiveness of the EU’s industry, sparking a dynamic discussion on the future of transport. ⚡ We thank the Hungarian Presidency for organizing this high-level event. We were pleased to strengthen our relationships with key industry players and EU decision-makers.

We are entering a proactive period in which we must expose the common challenges of the automotive industry in Europe, and the aim of this "Letter to Europe" from Luca de Meo is to make a call for public-private and cross-sectoral action to build European Champions in innovation. ✔️ This letter is not about ideology, it is about #technology. And if there is one element that massively democratizes technology, it is the vehicle. Every year 90M vehicles are sold. Therefore, whoever is the master of this technology through the vehicle will conquer the world. At the moment, neither batteries nor software are within the European perimeter. ✔️ The future of the automotive industry should not be addressed individually by each of the countries; it must be tackled under a joint European approach. ✔️ If we focus on the automotive sector, its weight in Europe is a fundamental pillar that has ensured progress, economic stability and quality employment in Europe. All this is what is at stake today if Europe is not able to implement a transversal and ecosystemic plan where there is co-responsibility and public-private and intersectoral cooperation. 🎸 “The automotive industry will dance to rock & roll for a while.” 🎶 Last week, I had the honor of attending for the first time the Reuters Events Automotive Europe 2024 conference in Munich where Mr. Tavares, CEO of Stellantis group, during a compelling opening keynote, perfectly captured the industry’s current dynamism with his above-mentioned metaphor. The conference spanned two days of highly engaging talks led by senior industry leaders and truly insightful discussions that delved into crucial topics shaping the automotive landscape. Here are a few key takeaways: 🔋 The future is electric, even though hybrid vehicles still play a crucial role during the transition. 🏭 OEMs have to focus on producing electric vehicles that are affordable, yet profitable. ⚡ eMSPs and CPOs need to ensure adequate charging infrastructure. However, it isn’t only about volumes; positioning, reliability, and interoperability matters. 📜 Policymakers should facilitate the transition towards electrification, providing stability rather than exacerbating the current turmoil. Amidst the transformative time, there are glimmers of opportunity. I am eager to contribute to this evolution by offering practical advice to navigate the forthcoming challenges, and I look forward to further discussions and collaborations as we steer towards a more safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly automotive future. #REAutoEU #MoreTogether

Rising protectionism - How will it affect the global automotive industry? Delighted to have been part of an exciting panel at the FT Live #futureofthecar2024 facilitated by Imogen Bhogal with Ian Howells and Abby Seadler Wulf. In the #lettertoEurope, Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, gives a series of recommendations and projects that should be undertaken to secure a sustainable, inclusive and competitive automotive industry. As long as there is a level playing field, we are not afraid of competition. But work has to be done: an #industrial deal that enables #competitiveness, a stronger dialogue among stakeholders and ecosystems, a more rational regulatory framework, an effective industrial diplomacy, and enabling the creation of european champions in key technologies. Clearly, the conditions are still not there to envisage an obstacle free path to 2035. In terms of enabling conditions, we should be installing 7 times more chargers than we are. There is no sign at sight that energy prices will reach a stable and competitive level in the short-medium term. #EU countries are phasing out purchase incentives for EVs… when reality in countries like Germany show that the contrary is needed, regulatory tsunami is still in front of us, with 8 to 10 regulatory impacts per year up to 2030.

LinkedIn TOP VOICE for EV 🏆, Event MC, 🎙️ The Electric & Eclectic Podcast Show Host, 🎬 Documentary Maker, Board Advisor, Harmonica Player, Business Consultant & Investor -Founder Electric Vehicles Outlook Ltd
12 Minute HIGHLY RECOMMENDED video! 🎬 When the Renault Group CEO talks to the E.ON CEO about a journey towards collaboration for mobility and energy - your ears should prick up! Mine did! 😳 And I was very pleased to witness this discussion in person at Eurelectric's EVision gathering in Brussels at Autoworld Museum Brussels a few days ago. It's prescient of so much more to come for sure - and soon! On competing with China & USA..."We need to find a way to get decarbonised and competitive energy into our system" Luca de Meo Leo Birnbaum then gives a VERY interesting response to that challenge! That's a real 'moment' in the conundrum Europe faces I'd say! So I'm glad that this conversation was held in Brussels - as The European Parliament, & European Commission together with National Governments across the continent (importantly including non EU countries) in charge of helping such business leaders progress MUST listen carefully if we are to avoid competitive catastrophe across the continent. 🇪🇺 As I see it these days, ALL holders of elected office are now geo-politicians and should think and act accordingly! And there's good reason I edited in Luca's words at the start about cross-industry collaboration - which you'll then hear in context towards the wrap up - because he's spot on with such a notion...and that's exactly what's been going on at China EV100 and similar gatherings for many years now - saw it for myself back in 2017! TEAM - Together Everyone Achieves More! 🤝 PS - If you didn't already know - Luca is European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) President these days..and that's a good thing as he's showing vision and courage right now! #automotive #energystorage #energy #electricvehicles
