Another ADSW over! Thanks to everyone at Masdar and our incredible suppliers for making it all happen. So much learned, so many connections made, and plenty to look forward to. When you are part of a small company chasing bold, ambitious goals, it’s often those closest to us who quietly make sacrifices along the way. So, to my wife, Angela Commane, I would like to apologise for: 1) Being rubbish at Christmas, including but not limited to demonstrating low engagement in the tradition of Santa presents, maintaining a generally substandard standard of present wrapping, failing to contribute meaningfully to Christmas cooking despite consuming more than my fair share of the festive feast, and engaging in unauthorized phone usage, such as checking emails during a family screening of "Love Actually". 2) A poor level of attendance to child and school-related activities, including but not limited to missing Freddie’s cross-country silver achievement (as evidenced in the attached photo), failing to participate equally in school pick-ups, consistently forgetting about homework until late Sunday afternoons, and being absent from several family dinners due to remaining in the office. 3) Inadequate support of her entrepreneurship, including but not limited to neglecting to supervise children entering and leaving the house as they create unnecessary noise and mess, excessively relying on her to ensure the household is well-maintained (which encroached on her work time), and failing to act as a reliable second opinion or source of support. Overall, these actions demonstrate a disregard for the balance required for her to foster both family harmony and professional success. So, if you are looking for someone to put together your dream holiday, or if, instead, you also want to bring the kids, please reach out to Angela, and she will make it happen.

Authors working hard to promote conscious books Book 1 Mula about mindfulness and a fun introduction to yoga with age appropriate moves to try in the back What I love about these books is the joy that kids get from the action part and how they skip straight to that on the second and third read. Little do then know that we always win because not only have they enjoyed a good book but we got them to move too! Book 2 Unicake helps parents address the importance of a healthy balanced diet whilst having fun too. What I love about this book is the sparkle and fun 🤩

What a buzzing festive gift fair Books 2 Door Limited had at Birmingham NEC this weekend! Over 15,000 visitors to the show made this an excellent experience. Connecting with Sweet Cherry Publishing authors like Lauren Hoffmeier who traveled all the way from New York City for her book tour, and the incredibly talented Red Author best known for "Unicake" and many other titles was a real treat. We distributed 250 copies of picture books for free to children at the event in a generous gesture of good will to promote reading and share literary joy. A super successful book signing event!

We hope all children enjoy celebrating Bonfire Night. For the 3 to 5 percent of people with photosensitive epilepsy, it's important to be cautious during the festivities tonight. Exposure to flashes and patterns from fireworks or flickering flames from bonfires could potentially trigger a seizure for them. To minimise this risk, it is advisable to maintain a safe distance from the fireworks and bonfire. By increasing the distance, the intensity of the light decreases, reducing the chances of triggering a seizure. Additionally, covering one eye with the palm of the hand can be helpful in reducing the risk. Another precautionary measure is to wear special glasses with a dark cobalt blue lens, known as the ‘Z1 lens’, which is specifically designed to help prevent photosensitive seizures.

In his gifts last year, Santa added an extra “Be Nice” note for half the children. This year Santa has got the “Annual Niceness Score” for each kid from their parents. Santa decided to see if the kids who got the “Be Nice” note actually behaved nicer or not? 🤔 But sadly, the variance in the metric was too high and the test was underpowered. Santa thought of 3 ingenuous ways to increase the power of his results using CUPED. 1. Stratification: Santa realized that boys are more mischievous than girls which can be used to reduce variance. 2. Adjusting for Good School Performance: Santa realized he can use kid’s school performance to reduce more variance. 3. CUPED: Finally, Santa used each kid's last year’s niceness score for the highest power. Bring a cup of hot chocolate and understand the core intuition behind why CUPED works in this Christmas edition Webinar 🎄on 23rd December, 10:00 am EST: https://lnkd.in/gczQ4mxP

The Christmas doorstep challenge is on! Imagine how many Christmases could be brightened by a simple gesture. The rules: 1. Pick someone who has had a tough time or would simply benefit from some festive goodwill. It doesn't have to be someone you know well.2. Choose them a gift - big or small.3. Write them an anonymous note, some kind words about why you were thinking of them.4. Leave it all at their doorstep.5. Knock on the door and leg it - make sure they don't see you!6. Feel happy knowing that you have spread some Christmas cheer with no expectations of anything in return. This year I picked a single mum who lost her dad at Christmas last year and is putting on a brave face this year for her two young kids. Let's share and see if this catches on and we can spread a bit of Christmas magic. Miracles really do happen! #Christmas #Doorstepchallenge2017 - let us know where you will be doing the #Christmas #doorstepchallenge this year! <3

The Secret Santa Gifting Network is a global initiative that brings people together for a unique gift exchange. This network removes the stress of finding personal details for gift giving. It offers an anonymous way to connect with others and spread holiday cheer. Participants sign up and are assigned a random person to whom they send a thoughtful present. The process is seamless and exciting, with gifts sent directly to recipients. But it's not just about receiving; the fun lies in the mystery of guessing the identity of your gift sender. The platform ensures a secure and enjoyable experience. It verifies participants' addresses and provides tracking IDs for gifts in transit. Each user gets a dedicated dashboard to manage their preferences and see updates on gifts they send and receive. This holiday season, join a community of like-minded individuals for a special twist on traditional gift-giving. Embrace the joy of giving, all while expanding your network incognito. Every parent gets frustrated when their kids take things (and them) for granted. They fail to appreciate all they have. And they’re right. But here’s the problem: most of us don’t know how to teach our kids to be grateful, so we end up simply telling them over and over that they should be. This doesn’t work. Gratitude comes from focusing on what we have, not what we don’t. Teaching this requires action—not just words. Years ago, my son, husband, and I traveled with Food for the Hungry to Bolivia, where we met people living in huts who shared what little they had with pride and joy. We saw their gardens and their fish ponds—simple things that made them feel like they’d won the lottery. It changed us. What makes kids grateful? Experiencing the struggles of others and seeing joy on the faces of those who have less. To teach this, take your kids to serve those in need—whether at Habitat for Humanity, a soup kitchen, or a memory care facility. Gratitude is learned through action, not words. P.S. Gift That Child The Power of choice. As the holiday season approaches, excitement fills the air. Families line up at malls, eager to capture that perfect moment with Santa. But amidst the joy, there’s a crucial conversation waiting to happen. Years ago, as a young mother, I was guilty of this myself. My son was terrified and frozen in fear, yet I pushed him to take a picture with Santa. Looking back, I realize that I missed an important lesson about consent and respecting his feelings. What if we paused for a moment? Instead of forcing our children into uncomfortable situations, let’s ask them how they feel about meeting Santa. Imagine the impact, by honoring their choice, whether they want to engage or not. You’re teaching them about boundaries and body autonomy. This holiday season, let’s create a new tradition. If your child wants to sit on Santa’s lap, be there with them. If they don’t, respect their decision wholeheartedly. Let’s celebrate the magic of choice and ensure our children feel safe and empowered during this festive time. After all, it’s not just about capturing a moment; it’s about fostering confidence in their own voices. How do you encourage your child to express their feelings during holiday traditions? Share your thoughts below Please repost this post to spread the message of empowerment and choice! #EmpoweredKids #HolidayTradition #EmpowerToPrevent #PhoenixGates #100DaysShowUpWithZuria
