The Junior League of Sacramento is an amazing group of women from a varied background of professions, industries, and passions. One of the things we all have in common is the desire to enhance women in our community through volunteerism, partnerships, training and other programs. The JLS reaches out to all women age 21 and older regardless of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin who possess an interest in and a commitment to voluntarism, to join our League. Our mission: The Junior League of Sacramento is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. In 2022, the League shifted its focus to food insecurity in the greater Sacramento area, selecting the Alchemist CDC, and Soil Born Farms and Food Literacy Center as three of its first partnerships under the new focus area, entitled “Nourishing Sacramento.” The 2023-2024 New Member Class is still accepting prospective members, to learn more, follow the link in the comments section. #JuniorLeague #volunteer #advocacy #Sacramento

The Federal Government’s new youth engagement strategy, ‘Engage!’, sets out a vision for a future where young people are empowered, valued, and contribute to government decision making. From this strategy, we know that young people see housing affordability, rent and homeownership as critical issues in their lives. Here at YWCA Australia, we recognise the importance of amplifying the voices of young people on the issues that impact them. Young women and gender diverse people’s leadership is core to our work, and we strive to create spaces where young people can shape their future to make safe, secure and affordable housing a reality. We elevate and engage young people on the issues of housing security and homelessness through: 💥 Amplifying Voices: our leadership program in Darwin equips young women and gender diverse people with lived experience to advocate for change. 💥 Young Women’s Council: a National advisory body who bring their passion and expertise to shaping YWCA’s advocacy and campaigning. 💥 Digital Activist Community: Our online member community, creating a space for people to grow, connect and shape our advocacy. Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the emancipation of those who have been enslaved in the United States. It started in Galveston, Texas and is now celebrated every year on June 19th across the United States. Although it has been nearly 2 centuries since this pivotal moment, we are still working towards achieving equity across the nation. There are many nonprofits today that are doing important work in helping our community become a more diverse and inclusive place. These are just a few nonprofits that you can support: 1. National Urban League — The National Urban League is a historic civil rights organization dedicated to economic empowerment in order to elevate the standard of living in historically underserved urban communities. 2. Race Forward — Race Forward catalyzes movement building for racial justice. They work to advance racial justice through research, media, and practice. 3. Color Of Change — Color Of Change is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, fighting to hold decision-makers accountable in achieving a more equitable society.

Megan Leonard (she/her) has been a part of the GTBG community for a while, and you may have witnessed her community energy and contributions in previous campaigns such as UNDIVIDED, Black Women Matter, or our TogetherForWomen event. These campaigns were so successful, they are now a permanent and signature feature in our advocacy work. As a volunteer and supporter, Megan stands with us, striving to build power and amplify support for women and gender-diverse folks at the margins, grappling with discrimination, disenfranchisement, and the erosion of basic human rights. She strongly advocates for solutions only the community holds that center the voices of those most affected, with the least power. Megan has ignited collective action for GTBG and many other organizations by using her artwork and personal networks, amplifying petitions and deep-seated policy issues on social media, building relationships with neighbours, employing deep listening, and allocating resources to meet shared needs and improve real, lived outcomes in women's lives. At a time when community investment and women’s leadership are sorely needed, this is no small achievement. She understands that collective power comes from everyday people—like you and us—who build common belief in a just, gender-equal, hopeful future for all.
