About us

GOOD TO BE GOOD is an intersectional, community-wide nonprofit serving and empowering women and gender-diverse people in marginalized communities, with a mission to build a kind, connected, and equal world. As a grassroots organization, we provide social services, advocacy, and integrated programming to our priority communities, aimed at co-creating meaningful gender equality and opportunities. Our work centres the issues, rights, and needs of women and gender-diverse people—particularly from underserved communities, impacted by inequities such as violence, poverty, and discrimination. Guided by intersectional feminist and social justice principles, and the fundamental nature of interconnectedness, we boldly envision a future that is radically equitable, compassionate, and sustainable. We are dedicated to supporting and liberating women in solidarity. Together, we can harness the collective power of humanity to undo the injustices that harm and marginalize us— expanding a world that truly values all life. GOOD TO BE GOOD is based in what is currently known as Canada. Learn more: https://linktr.ee/goodtobegood

As National Day for Truth and Reconciliation approaches, we must deepen our understanding of Turtle Island’s history and the ongoing impacts of Eurocentric colonization and genocide on Indigenous communities.  This day is a crucial reminder to educate ourselves, uplift Indigenous voices, and support their stories of resilience and healing. It’s a time to acknowledge the profound loss of innocent lives—both those already uncovered and the thousands yet to be found. We must also remember that the deliberate oppression and cultural genocide experienced by Indigenous communities is not a relic of the past. The effects of colonialism continue to shape the lives of Indigenous families and survivors today, reminding us of the urgent need for justice and healing. We’ve curated a selection of books by Indigenous authors that speak to truth, reconciliation, and healing. These works offer valuable insights into the experiences and perspectives of Indigenous peoples, helping us all to contribute to a more just and equitable society. We also encourage you to read/re-read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action; learn about Indigenous History and the Residential School system; Identify the territory where you live; actively listen and learn to Indigenous communities and elders. 👉🏽 Swipe and save these books as we continue to educate and liberate.  ________ #TruthAndReconciliation #IndigenousVoices #SupportIndigenousAuthors #NationalDayForTruth #AmplifyIndigenousStories #GTBG #TurtleIsland

In a fair and just world, basic human needs wouldn’t be commodified, and survival wouldn’t have a price tag. Women wouldn’t be forced to choose between paying their phone bill to stay connected and covering rent to ensure shelter. Safety, particularly in times of crisis, is just the first step towards gender equality. Our Empowering Care Program delivers essential relief to our priority communities by providing practical support like transportation, gift cards for necessities, nutritious food, and menstrual and wellness products. From April to June, we supported a wide range of individuals, including women ineligible for government services, those who are unemployed, low-income families, people with disabilities or mental health conditions, those without legal status, and others facing isolation or barriers to healthcare and social services. Due to rising inflation and chronic underinvestment in social services and safety nets across Canada, daily essentials have become the most pressing need for applicants. Starting as a small group of friends committed to action and organising locally, our efforts grew into GOOD TO BE GOOD—now a national-wide nonprofit organization. At the heart of our mission is to promote and advance futures that are truly more gender-equal, intersectional, and interconnected. These are the unshakeable values that sustain our outlook and have guided our work over the years.🌟 Over the past eight years, we've been committed to supporting women and gender-diverse individuals from marginalized and underserved communities across Canada through critical programming, direct support, advocacy, wraparound assistance, peer-based and case services, resources, and low-barrier services. Everyone deserves to live a life free from violence, oppression, and poverty. We believe that barriers are best and positively disrupted together. We all know this to be true: when women’s rights are upheld, when a woman’s power is valued, we all thrive.   Thanks to our dedicated team, volunteers, supporters, partners, community members, and the movement leaders, activists, groups, and advocates here and before us, the past eight years have been transformational growth. We are grateful for your continued support and, most importantly, for your belief in the possibility of something better, more just for women and gender-diverse people. ✨ Our work is far from over—in solidarity, until we are all free! 💜 ___________ #GOODTOBEGOOD #CommunitySupport #GenderDiversity #EndViolence #InclusiveCommunities #Sustainability #HumanityFirst #Empowerment #CharityWork #Goodtobegood #GTBG

Why is emotional regulation so important? It’s not just about calming down; it’s about finding the clarity we need to navigate life’s challenges effectively. This clarity can be especially vital for women and gender-diverse people, who often face unique stressors tied to systemic inequities. These stressors can intensify emotional difficulties, making it harder to maintain overall well-being. The added weight of societal stigma and stress can further amplify these challenges. At GTBG, we are dedicated to supporting and empowering women in solidarity, recognizing the importance of finding the methods that work for each individual to manage emotions, especially when so many things are pulling us in different directions. Sometimes, it could be as simple as talking to a friend to feel lighter and more at ease, reminding us that we’re not alone.  Emotional regulation can help build resilience, improve our relationships, and create interpersonal skills that allow us to respond to situations with greater understanding and compassion. What’s your go-to method for emotional regulation? __________________ #MentalHealthMatters #ResilienceBuilding #GTBG #Goodtobegood #Nonprofit #Programs #TeamLove #Resources
