Indian energy platform Avaada Group has pledged to install 6 GW of hybrid renewable energy projects in the state of Gujarat with an estimated investment of some INR 400 billion (USD 4.83bn/EUR 4.41bn). The ambitious plan will be realised under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government, Avaada announced on Friday. The plan calls for the construction of wind-solar parks across various districts of Gujarat, mostly at underdeveloped waste lands of Kutch district. The hybrid power generation sites will supply their output to local utilities, among which GUVNL, with some of the electricity to go for Avaada’s green hydrogen and ammonia projects. Once in operation, the wind-solar complexes will be able to produce around 17.5 billion kWh of green power annually. The ambitious project is expected to open about 1,200 direct and indirect jobs. “With its abundant natural resources including 300 sunshine days, availability of vast wasteland and long coastline, Gujarat has the potential to significantly contribute towards meeting the global demand for alternative solutions for fossil fuels,” said Vineet Mittal, chairperson of Avaada Group. At present, Avaada has some 2 GW of renewable energy projects in operation or under implementation in Gujarat. The group’s goal is to reach 11 GW of installed capacity by 2026. Adani Group have started commercial production of wafer and ingots for solar power at their Gujarat factory, with plans to produce polysilicon in 2027/28 to become India's first integrated renewable energy player. Adani Group aims to generate 45 GW of renewable power by 2030, with two-thirds of that coming from their $18.01 billion Khavda renewable energy park in Gujarat. This expansion is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of India becoming a net carbon zero country by 2070. Adani New Industries Ltd (ANIL) has set up a 2 GW ingot and wafers factory and has already begun production. They currently import #polysilicon for making ingots, which are converted into thin sheets called #wafers for #solarpower cells. Adani is creating a renewable manufacturing hub at the port city of Mundra in Gujarat and will invest over 300 billion rupees ($3.60 billion) for expanding their #solarcell and #windturbine making capacities. Adani Green Energy Ltd. (AGEL) currently produces 11 GW of green power through various projects, including the 2 GW produced by the 1.5-trillion-rupee 30-GW Khavda project, which will be the world's biggest renewable energy park when completed. #adanigroup #renewableenergy #solarpowered #sustainability #netcarbonzero #india #energygoals #adani #greenenergy

India's renewable energy potential is concentrated in four key states, with Rajasthan leading the pack at 20.3%, followed by Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka. Despite this, the nation has only tapped into 8% of its total potential as of FY23, with wind power notably underutilized, constituting only 3.7% of installed capacity. According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, India aims to shift towards renewable sources, targeting 500GW of installed capacity by 2030. This shift is evident in the growth rates, with renewable energy capacity witnessing a 12.20% increase in FY22-23 compared to a mere 0.49% growth in thermal sources. With wind, solar, and large hydro boasting the highest potential, India's renewable energy journey is poised for significant expansion and transformation in the coming years. #renewableenergy #indiaenergyweek #sustainability #cleanenergyfuture
