Attracting new talent into the trades 🛠 has been a long hard battle. School systems told us for many years that there are better things to do than working with our hands, or getting them dirty. ⛑ At Matrix HR we have been working on professionalizing these jobs for 21 years and focus on continual improvement. 💯 It is up to everyone in the industry to make the conditions for these jobs more attractive but also to offer options so that people working in these roles are moving forward in their careers. Organizations like Women Building Futures, Trade Winds to Success Training Society Calgary Construction Association, and OpenCircle, to name a few, help us to offer opportunities and benefits to keep developing job skills. 👩🔧 How great is it to see someone achieve a Journey-person ticket, become a superintendent, start their own company or mentor people new to the industry? There are lots of great opportunities in the trades we need to make sure the message is getting out there. https://lnkd.in/g_35DHhX

Today marks the end of a two week work placement for Sonny Marshall at the The TP Group, and what an invaluable two weeks it has been for both Sonny and some of the team in our Passive Fire Division he has worked alongside. Sweyne Park School in partnership with us, arranged the placement to give Sonny a chance to try out working in the construction industry, to help him pick up useful skills and get a feel for what it's like in the working world. We are keen to offer these chances to the next generation by helping them learn the ropes and boosting their chances of landing a job on completion of their GCSEs. It's all about giving them a shot at building their careers and making sure they've got options when it comes to finding work, and the TP Group is ideal to offer this as a multidisciplinary contractor. The last two weeks have seen Sonny jam packed with site visits along side Contracts Managers and Operations Directors to see a variety on different site set ups, preparing packs for CPD deliveries, attending a CPD, assisting the administration team, helping the marketing team by data cleansing the CRM, attending a Fire Safety event, and learning about job files and variations. By providing work experience placements, we hope to not only contribute to the professional development of young people like Sonny, but as the team found out, we also stand to gain from the fresh perspective an enquiring mind can bring. We wish you all the luck in the future! #workexperience #CareerDevelopment #SkillsDevelopment #MultidisciplinaryContractor #ConstructionExperience #socialvalue

6 years ago we setup a social media network for Perth Electricians to Connect. Today that page the ‘PERTH ELECTRICIANS’ Facebook page hit 8000 Perth Industry Members! 💪💪💪 So many examples I can think of where it’s added benefit ✅Contractors finding tradesman and apprentices and also apprentices/tradesman finding jobs. ✅Assistance given when needed in terms of technical advise, suggestions on products, or just general job advise ✅After Hours parts sourced through wholesalers or other contactors on the page ✅Contractors finding people to subby out work too and those contractors who need a little more using the page to find extra work through others ✅Stolen tools found through other contractors on the page ✅New product announcements ✅Industry news updates and rule changes shared with members as they become available ✅$50,000 Raised recently by group members to support the wife of a Perth Electrician who was tragically passed away whilst performing a job 🙏🏻 The list goes on…. I’m stoked with the respect, professionalism shown by all members to date when members ask questions nobody is bagged out or put down. People actually feel comfortable asking which was always the priority when starting the page. To help others and get assistance where needed! A few have been kicked off for 🔴Abusing or ridiculing myself other members directly or to their questions after continual warnings 🔴Not paying members on the page who they’ve sourced from the page and used for subby work. We don’t want other members to be affected financial from people doing the wrong thing. 🔴Naming and shaming using business names of other contractors publicly I won’t ever stand for bullies who operate in a pack and belittle, like I have seen on some other industry pages. But a credit to all as most have been amazing since Day 1. I often hear feedback from contractors the page is now better to find Sparkies in Perth than Seek so feel free to utilise this great resource. Also pretty amazing to meet apprentices around town who got their first apprenticeship from this page. Always open to input and feedback if you think something needs to change on the page or we need to do things differently I’m always open to private messages. I happily admit I don’t always have the right answers so input is greatly appreciated and valued. Don’t forget to Invite industry peers who may not be on the group! Let’s keep on lifting the bar in the electrical industry in WA and helping each other to succeed 💪
