Have a listen to this - our good farmers should be supported by our councils, but not thwarted or constrained by obstructive layers of bureaucracy…. Catchment groups(well resourced) and catchment plans and community leadership go hand in hand with agile farming leaders being lighthouses for others. There’s a place for regulation for sure but there’s also a place for independant community led change based on good science and catchment plans.
John Burke, is keen to see all farms get on a journey of farm planning. His experience with 20 years of applying a plan to their Bay of Plenty farm has resulted in a more profitable, lower footprint farm with 1/3 of the farm restored into a mix of exotics and natives. GHG, and contaminant loss is more than half of what it was, and profit is signficiantly more. On the 13th of March at Bay Venues, Tauranga, we will showcase what leading farmers and businesses are doing to significantly reduce their farming footprint, improving business resilience, while also helping local communities improve land practices.

"Reasonable ideas seldom change anything" 💡 That is why Agricarbon is challenging the belief that ground truth soil carbon measurements cannot be scalable and economical. High volumes of primary data are essential, but this is currently often overlooked for seemingly 'easier' solutions such as remote sensing and modelling. Nothing beats ground-truth data. If we want to ensure that what is said say truly happens, we need to measure it. We might sound Unreasonable, but it really IS possible! 🌱 #unreasonablecompany #carbonmarkets #carbonremovals #soilhealth #regenerativeagriculture
As we conclude on the 12 ventures that recently joined our fellowship, we are excited to introduce the final trio of ventures. Meet the three incredible ventures that have recently joined our Fellowship, each dedicated to decarbonizing the supply chain. Agricarbon: led by co-founder and CEO Annie Leeson, specializes in sampling agricultural soil and natural landscapes to measure their carbon content for the purpose of verifying carbon removals. Land Life: led by CEO Rebekah Braswell, is dedicated to providing businesses with the opportunity to invest in long-term nature restoration projects. Nuada: led by co-CEO Conor Hamill, offers an ultra-energy-efficient point carbon capture system to help hard-to-abate industries reduce carbon emissions and reach global net-zero targets. Farmers Wife & founder of Save Old Malton Countryside to protect BMV farmland and our AHA Tenant Farm from solar development by Harmony Energy. Founding member of the Solar Alliance.
Last week i joined this Tenant Farmers Association webinar on landlord and tenant relationships. What an enlightening and encouraging event it was! I asked the question about whether or not the speakers viewed the tenant and landlord relationship as an equal partnership. The strong message of reply from both speakers was that it is a partnership, there must be full engagement between tenant farmers and landlords. Both parties have a responsibility to work things out. Stand out comments included: “The power for both parties to do good is tangible. It’s about humility and fairness, this is often the family home, the livelihood. There’s a moral responsibility.” The reality is of course, that it is it far from an equal partnership. Landlords and tenants have very different starting points. When you’re in dispute or negotiation with large institutions, with vast wealth and access to greater funds and professional advice, the playing field is not level or fair. Both the The Crown Estate and The Duchy Of Cornwall gave a fascinating insight into their own land management plans which were inclusive and helpful to tenant farmers and landlords. It gave us and all tenants hope. If tenant farms are successful, the landlord will also see a success. Large, high profile Estates such as these have the power to set the precedent for standards of behaviour throughout the country. Their positive examples only helps to highlight the poor behaviour of other landowners and landlords. Farming is going through a huge transition and we must all adapt and respond collaboratively and positively. Tenants and landlords may have different perspectives but consultation is key. Only time will tell for us here in Malton if our own landlord - also a significant landowner within the country, will support Harmony Energy in pursuing their development on almost half our AHA tenanted land. #RockReview #LandlordTenantRelationships #TFAWebinar #WorkingTogether #FarmingBestPractice #DuchyofCornwall #CrownEstate #RegenerativeFarming #FairRelationships #NetZero #PaulSedgwick #AlastairMartin #fitzwilliamtrustcorporation #malton #saveoldmaltoncountryside
Did you miss our webinar on Reimagining Landlord Tenant Relationships In Agriculture? Don’t worry, you can catch up on-demand here: https://lnkd.in/g9Pb8vw7 Why watch? In light of the recommendations made by the Rock Review, this webinar looks at how two of the major institutional landlords are responding to the challenge of establishing a collegiate & collaborative working relationship with their tenant farmers. It also showcases how institutional landlords can act as a beacon of good practice for the landlord community & taking this into account, how farm tenants should be responding. Guest speakers at this event were Paul Sedgwick, Deputy Ranger & Managing Director of Windsor & Rural, Crown Estate, along with Alastair Martin, Secretary & Keeper of the Records, Duchy of Cornwall. This webinar is part of a series of virtual TFA events hosted by TFA National Chair, Mark Coulman and sponsored by Oxbury Bank. It was originally broadcast live on 13 December 2023. #RockReview #LandlordTenantRelationships #TFAWebinar #WorkingTogether #FarmingBestPractice #DuchyofCornwall #CrownEstate #RegenerativeFarming #FairRelationships #NetZero #PaulSedgwick #AlastairMartin #GeorgeDunn
