This is a special announcement from our CEO and Co-Founder Joel Tasche... "Day in and day out, our teams all over the world are dedicated to addressing plastic pollution and exploring solutions. This work takes us to places most people never visit — like dirty beaches far from resorts, settlements without waste management, and dumpsites where thousands of tons of waste burn daily. Thankfully, there are countless people and organizations committed to creating change. From waste workers collecting plastic for a living, grassroots companies implementing recycling systems, to government officials striving for a brighter future and companies on a mission to reduce waste and move towards circular practices. This experience is a privilege, filling our team with hope for a better, cleaner, and more equitable future. We want to share that privilege with you in this short video https://lnkd.in/ePPAykRG Be sure to follow our YouTube channel for more episodes from this trip to the largest landfill in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. #Recycling plays a critical role in our journey towards #EcologicalTransformation, representing a key element in the circular economy paradigm. On this #WorldRecyclingDay, we would like to highlight one of our ongoing projects that aims to develop and implement a sustainable recycling plastic waste model in the Eastern Caribbean Islands. Seureca-Unite Caribbean joint venture’s collaboration with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission, supported by the French Development Agency (AFD) under an EU grant, represents an important initiative aimed at confronting the challenges of marine litter and #wastemanagement in the context of small islands. 👉 This project focuses on creating a financially self-sustainable #plastic recycling model and demonstrating it in two selected islands. 🎯 Our collective efforts have achieved significant milestones: Dominica has started to export plastic bales for recycling, while Grenada is on the brink of inaugurating a multipurpose recycling facility, including a plastic shredder. 🗣️ In #Dominica, #Grenada and #SaintLucia, our project has also facilitated meaningful dialogues with the governments, key civil society groups and the private sector to identify sustainable financing mechanisms. These discussions have proven vital in building a resilient plastic waste management model that emphasises regional cooperation, financial sustainability, and the potential for replication in other OECS Member States. At Seureca, we are proud to lead this transformative project alongside the OECS Commission, AFD, local governments, and community partners. 💬 Discover in the comments section a documentary video on this project and a litter awareness campaign. At the end of Earth Month, we are reflecting on the past month of SWANA conferences, meetings, and events that advance SWANA’s goal of being a climate champion. The INC-4 showed that there is a great need for improved resource recovery and management, which our members do every day. SWANA provides members with the technical resources and information needed in their daily work to manage waste as a resource. Amy Lestition Burke, Executive Director & CEO of SWANA, shared these thoughts during the SWANA side event at the INC-4: “As I have been attending events this week, I hear the statistic that the equivalent of 2,000 garbage trucks full of plastic are dumped in the worlds’ oceans, rivers, and lakes every day. This fact is actually on the homepage of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Plastic Pollution website. Why is it a garbage truck? Think about that. This statistic projects an image of garbage trucks and recycling trucks dumping plastic waste into the ocean. When in reality, recycling trucks are preventing plastic pollution. The waste and recycling industry is providing solutions. We are hearing about ambitious goals to improve recycling systems and recycling rates, and that can’t happen without basic waste collection. We need to move beyond a take-make-waste model to a circular economy model and we can only do that through collaboration. Together we can change that image of a recycling truck dumping plastic into the ocean and change it to an image of the recycling truck being the link to make recycled products.” #EveryDayisEarthDay #EarthDay #EarthMonth #Earth #ClimateChampions #SWANA #SolidWaste #Recycling #PlasticPollution #Pollution

Our ocean is drowning in plastic - here’s what we’re doing about it. ⬇ 2 billion people in coastal regions worldwide don't have access to proper waste management. In regions without waste collection, trash is either openly burned, dumped or piled onto poorly managed landfills, from where it eventually makes its way into nature. And so, CleanHub is implementing waste management systems where there are none, to stop plastic waste before it ever has the chance to reach our ocean. We believe plastic pollution is solved on land, not in the sea. 🌊 Want to join us on this mission? Speak to us about the simple steps you can take to make a big difference to our oceans ➡ https://lnkd.in/epgyAtuD. Together, let’s turn awareness into action and reshape the future of our planet.

The "Closing the Caribbean Plastic Tap" initiative, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), has launched in five Caribbean nations to tackle plastic waste. Workshops in Saint Lucia and Saint Kitts and Nevis have kicked off this important project. The Caribbean region contributes about 4% to global plastic production, with mismanaged waste making up 7% of the total. This initiative aims to reduce plastic waste and leakage through innovative, socially inclusive solutions. Saint Lucia’s Dr. Pauline Antoine-Prospere emphasized collaboration, while St. Kitts and Nevis' Dr. Joyelle Clarke highlighted the Federation's commitment to sustainability and plastic waste management. 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆: 𝗔 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮🌍 The circular economy is a model designed to minimize waste and maximize the lifespan of resources by keeping materials in circulation through reuse, repair, and recycling. It offers a powerful alternative to the "take, make, dispose" approach that dominates today's economy. For Africa, embracing these principles can be a catalyst for sustainable development, environmental protection, and job creation. We can learn from countries like the Netherlands, where cities like Rotterdam dismantle old buildings and reuse materials in new construction projects, reducing waste and conserving resources. In South Africa, PETCO’s plastic recycling initiative has created jobs while boosting the plastic recycling rate to over 60%. Rwanda’s bold step to ban plastic bags highlights how strong policies can dramatically reduce pollution. African youth are well-positioned to lead this shift by embracing green entrepreneurship, using technology to promote recycling, advocating for supportive policies, and educating their communities. The opportunities are vast, and the time to act is now. What can we do within our communities to drive this change? Let’s start the conversation and take steps toward a sustainable future.
