As a global business, we can be proud of the achievements being made across our four sustainability pillars, which includes the increasing number of our farmers who are adopting regenerative agricultural practices. Label-plus interventions are needed to increase the impact of sustainability labels to feed sustainable transitions. That was the core message of my talk at ‘Making sustainable food more accessible’ in Brussels. I highlighted that labels are needed to make the market transparent, though by far not enough to change consumer behavior. More is needed to support sustainable transitions! I included 3 examples to increase the impact: 🌿 trigger existing values because consumers are extremely good at ignoring information, though when their values are triggered sustainable choices are also triggered. 🍟 change the food environment to support behaviour change for example by changing the standard to become the sustainable option, and consumers need to actively ask or search for other options. 💜 do not only focus on conscious triggers like price and cognitive information, as emotions and the social environment are also highly relevant in consumer decision making.
