Antheia, Inc., the pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturer transforming essential medicine supply chains and Olon Group, the global leader in developing and manufacturing active pharmaceutical ingredients  (APIs) for CDMO (contract development and manufacturing organization) and generic markets, today announced an ongoing partnership to leverage Olon’s vast fermentation infrastructure to manufacture Antheia’s early products. Antheia and Olon established this partnership in 2022 to leverage Olon’s fermentation sites across Italy. Olon has since played a pivotal role as a CDMO for scaling Antheia’s biomanufacturing processes and producing its Biosynthetic KSMs (key starting materials) and APIs. Pharmaceutical raw materials, a big business in Colombia. National production: of 306 companies in the pharmaceutical sector11, 71% concentrate on drug marketing activities and 29% of them are dedicated to production12. Domestically produced medicines represent 46% and imported medicines 54% (2019). According to DANE, pharmaceutical production was 7.74 trillion pesos in 2020, with an average variation of 6% in the last 10 years. The pharmaceutical production of medicinal chemicals and botanicals (ISIC 210) represents 2.6% of the total gross production of the manufacturing industry13. These products mainly focus on meeting domestic demand, which became more critical during the pandemic, sparking the National Government's recent conversations on pharmaceutical safety. From 2022, greater growth in local medicine production is projected; Between January and February, production registered a growth of 21.1%, compared to the variation of -1.6% in the same period of the previous year14. (Box 2) The production of medicines in the country generates 49,768 jobs (2022), with an average growth of 3.8% in the last six years.
