Secretary General of BEPA - Director Government Affairs Electromobility Projects - Coordinator Asian Affairs - Umicore
Excellent presentation of BEPA - Batteries European Partnership Association by Bozorg Khanbaei at the Joint IPCEI event on Batteries in Bologna. Continuous and ambitious innovation in battery technology (all across the value chain) is very much needed if we want to accelerate electrification of mobility. If you are looking for a blueprint outlining the key technological challenges ahead and where innovation funding & further financing should flow, I recommend reading the new Strategic Agenda for Research & Innovation (SRIA) released by BEPA - Batteries European Partnership Association. Built collectively with the European battery (innovation) ecosystem, our SRIA aims among others at supporting the roll-out of the European batteries partnership called BATT4EU (with up to 925 million euro funding in Horizon Europe). BATT4EU, which is championed by Ms Rosalinde van der Vlies at the EU Commission’s DG RTD, falls under the innovation pillar of the European Battery Alliance which was created under the constant leadership of EU Commission’s VP Maroš Šefčovič Our SRIA is available here ➡ https://lnkd.in/eHS-ByfV and we will present it via a free webinar on March 20th at 10 AM ➡ https://lnkd.in/en6satGg as a side event of the EU’s R&I days.

The ICDA Gala dinners are always a highlight of the conference. Some even suggest that the ICDA is best at creating unique events that foster networking and friendship. The Gala dinner held during the ICDA Members Meeting 2024 in Hong Kong was another outstanding event, with guests enjoying impressive views of Hong Kong from Sky100 at 393 metres above sea level. The occasion was marked by a celebration of the ICDA's 40th anniversary, with tributes to the founders and confidence that the new generation of industry leaders will continue to follow in the path they have created in 1984. The gala dinner provided the ideal setting to congratulate the winners of the ICDA Sustainability Awards, 2nd edition, sponsored by TELF AG Environment Category Vargön Alloys AB YILMADEN HOLDING INC. The company achieved a significant breakthrough by reducing its fossil coke consumption by 20% through the use of 30% biocarbon chromite briquettes. This achievement represents a significant milestone in the decarbonisation of the FeCr industry, offering the shortest pathway for reducing fossil CO2 emissions without extensive modifications to the existing operating system. Social Category Assore Group The Kitso Ya Boleng initiative guarantees that everyone has the same opportunities, the chance to develop their skills, to find employment and to play their part in company development and economic growth. It is a fantastic programme that is helping to tackle the shortage of skills and training students to acquire all the right skills and a diploma. All of this is taking place in a sustainably designed campus with state-of-the-art equipment. New recognition for Outokumpu’s sustainability work 🎉 Outokumpu team won a Sustainability Award in the Governance category as the first ferrochrome producer in the world to have publicly disclosed its environmental performance via the Environmental Product declaration. The Award was given by International Chromium Development Association, a non-profit association, that promotes the value and sustainability of chromium and represents the chromium industry worldwide. “Outokumpu is the owner of the largest known chromite reserves within the European Union. Outokumpu acquired Environmental Product Declaration for its ferrochrome production, first in the industry, and set the bar for the industry for standardized and transparent way of reporting of environmental impacts of a product. Today, Outokumpu‘s ferrochrome has significantly lower carbon footprint than industry average. The EPD for ferrochrome will further support Outokumpu’s commitment to help its customers in reducing their climate emissions,” says Martti Sassi, President BA Ferrochrome at Outokumpu.
