✈ Introducing the Certification Readiness Level (#CRL) Scale! We are thrilled to announce the formal release of the novel Certification Readiness Level (#CRL) scale, a core milestone of CONCERTO -a Clean Aviation project- developed in partnership with EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency. 🔍 #What is the CRL Scale? The CRL scale consists of nine main steps designed to assess the future certificability of innovative concepts of operation, business models, and products/systems. It complements the traditional Technology Readiness Level (#TRL) scale by engaging progressively with aviation authorities to facilitate future shared oversight activities. The CRL scale will be further detailed as part of the future certification methods and means of compliance under development within CONCERTO Project. 💡 #Why is it important? The scale is crucial for applicants, technology developers, and system suppliers working with EASA Innovation Services, such as Innovation Partnership Contracts (IPCs) or Pre-Application Services Contracts (PACs). Understanding and utilizing the CRL scale helps measure the maturity level of their products or Concepts of Operations (CONOPS). #Read the official announcement: https://lnkd.in/dP-jXTuf #Learn More: https://lnkd.in/dUTr_W8P Stay tuned for more updates! On July 26, Leonardo's Next Generation Civil Tiltrotor (NGCTR) Technology Demonstrator (TD) completed a significant ground run at their Cascina Costa facility in Varese, Italy. This milestone marks the beginning of an intensive ground test phase, with plans for the NGCTR-TD's first flight by year-end. The NGCTR-TD, part of the Clean Sky 2 EU-funded initiative, aims to enhance environmental impact and the European aerospace supply chain through advanced tiltrotor technologies. This project, which commenced in 2015, has reached notable development stages, including the recent completion of its assembly phase in June 2024. Massimo Biggi, Next Generation Fast Rotorcraft Programs Manager at Leonardo Helicopters, stated: “The NGCTR-TD represents a new chapter in European tiltrotor design. This ground run reflects our progress and the collaborative effort of partners within the Clean Sky 2 initiative. Our goal is to achieve first flight and demonstrate the platform’s capabilities, contributing to cleaner skies and advanced mobility technologies.” The NGCTR-TD integrates five innovative technologies, including advanced wing architecture, an optimized V-Tail, a non-tilting engine setup, and an advanced fly-by-wire control system. These features enhance performance, reduce emissions, and improve operational efficiency. With a cruising speed of up to 280 knots, the NGCTR-TD offers twice the speed of conventional helicopters and serves various missions, including medical evacuation and search-and-rescue. Its design aligns with Leonardo's Sustainability Plan, focusing on reduced CO2 emissions and noise.
