May is Foster Care Awareness Month. It's a time to reflect on the health of children in foster care, their families, and their caregivers. Connect With A Wish delivers services in the gaps left in the community and works with government and civic leaders to protect our most vulnerable. DID YOU KNOW*: --4,975 children were in foster care in the Commonwealth of Virginia in September 2021? --18.7 months was the median stay for a child in VA foster care in 2021 (up from 15 months in 2020)? --1,898 total children were waiting to be adopted in VA? When you support CWW with your donation and your time, you directly impact the lives of at-risk children and youth in Hampton Roads. Contact us today by DM or email how you can make an impact! .. *statistics are taken from https://lnkd.in/ecXB_ns8 and reflect the difficulty in collecting data. Access to foster care can be infrequent and cyclical, so data assessments are held on September 30th of each year to get a snapshot of the current trends .. #nonprofit #virginiabeach #virginia #vbva #hamptonroads #beach #connectwithawish #fostercare

🌟 May is Foster Care Awareness Month! 🌟 My family provided provided foster care for small children for several years and this really hits home for me. This month, we recognize and honor the incredible foster families who open their hearts and homes to children in need. Foster care plays a crucial role in providing safe, nurturing environments for children who have experienced trauma and instability. Here’s how you can get involved and make a difference: 💙 Support Foster Families: Offer your time, resources, or a helping hand to foster parents in your community. Simple acts of kindness can make a huge impact! 👶 Consider Fostering: Have you ever thought about becoming a foster parent? There are many children who need a loving and stable home. Reach out to local agencies to learn more about the process and how you can help. 📣 Raise Awareness: Share information about foster care on social media to help spread the word. Knowledge is power, and your voice can help educate others about the importance of foster care. 🤝 Volunteer or Donate: Many organizations support foster children and families. Find a local or national organization to volunteer with or donate to, ensuring they have the resources they need. Together we can make a difference. #FosterCareMonth #SupportFosterFamilies #FosterHope #ChangeALife #UnionHomeMortgage

The average number of placements for youth experiencing foster care is 8.3. Now, read that statistic above again. If a child has moved to five or more placements, they’re facing a 90% chance of being involved with the criminal legal system. Every relocation erodes stability, relational permanency, and normalcy for youth experiencing foster care – all things critical for young people, no matter the circumstances, to thrive. We know the foster care system isn’t perfect. We know it’s in crisis. But systems don’t create deep, trusting relationships – people do. Where the system fails to provide stability and support when young people need it most, our communities can. Our programs partner with community members across the country to radically change the foster care experience – both for the children and youth experiencing foster care, and the families who open up their doors to foster. The fewer placements youth endure, the more likely they are to overcome the statistics they face. Decreasing placements for youth experiencing foster care (placement stability) is a cornerstone of our mission and programs – and every person can have a role in it. Some choose to foster. Some choose to volunteer. Some choose to stand in the gap by consistently supporting this life-changing work through a monthly donation. Your gift of $10, $25, $50, no matter the amount, influences the stats. Your gift sends a powerful message: you believe that every child, youth, and family experiencing foster care deserves to be reached and radically served by our programs. Will you join us? There’s no question that foster parents are on the front lines of advocacy for children in need of safe care. It’s not an easy task, but the impact is deep and lasting. Despite what some might think, being a foster parent does not demand superhuman strength. The role simply requires a healthy dose of courage and a strong system of support. The latter is what we offer at We Care Foster Care. We support foster families and the children in their care with the resources they need to thrive. As caregivers step bravely into the future, we are right behind them every step of the way. You can help. Your financial donation can provide resources to more foster families who need them. Strengthen our support system. Give today at https://loom.ly/tBtVQ1I.

"The support that Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation has shown me during my college career has allowed me to set my goals higher than I ever could have imagined." - Arena, AFFCF Scholar Three percent. That's it. Just three percent of youth with foster care backgrounds will earn a post-secondary degree, compared to the 66% of the general population of their peers. The reasons for not completing their degree vary - an emergency popped up, they had a bad semester, they were on the brink of being homeless... AFFCF's Post-Secondary programs provide more than just funds for tuition and fees; they also help with unexpected life emergencies that can prevent students from completing their college education. Because having been in foster care shouldn't mean you can't reach your goals. You can make a real impact for post-secondary students with foster care backgrounds and get rewarded for your good deed! Because AFFCF is a Qualifying Foster Care Organization (#10023), your donation qualifies for a credit on your AZ state taxes, up to $1,051. And...you can donate today and still count it for the 2023 tax year! Donate today at affcf.org/give! #AFFCF40thAnniversary #40yearsofimpact #40yearsofchangingstories #fostercare #postsecondaryprograms #AFFCF #azffcf #celebratewithus #40for40 #youwinkidswin

As with many states, Pennsylvania currently has more children in the foster system than there are families available to take them in. This means many children are left without the stability and care they desperately need. How You Can Help: Become a Foster Parent: Open your heart and home to a child in need. Every child deserves a loving and supportive environment. Spread Awareness: Share this post to help raise awareness about the urgent need for foster families in Pennsylvania. Support Foster Care Organizations: Donate or volunteer with local foster care agencies and support groups. Your contribution can make a significant difference. Advocate for Change: Contact local representatives and advocate for policies that support foster children and improve the foster care system. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these children. 💙 source: Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) #FosterCare #Pennsylvania #FosterLove #Adopt #SupportFosterKids #MakeADifference #Family #Community #wellrootedpa #wellrooted #fostercareawarenessmonth #fostercareawareness

The time to positively impact your community is here. There are 20% less foster homes available in NC than there were just a few years ago. That means that children who have been removed from their homes, who are feeling confused and scared, can end up sleeping in a government offices or medical facilities because there is no home available to take them in when they most need the comfort of a foster family.
