The average number of placements for youth experiencing foster care is 8.3. Now, read that statistic above again. If a child has moved to five or more placements, they’re facing a 90% chance of being involved with the criminal legal system. Every relocation erodes stability, relational permanency, and normalcy for youth experiencing foster care – all things critical for young people, no matter the circumstances, to thrive. We know the foster care system isn’t perfect. We know it’s in crisis. But systems don’t create deep, trusting relationships – people do. Where the system fails to provide stability and support when young people need it most, our communities can. Our programs partner with community members across the country to radically change the foster care experience – both for the children and youth experiencing foster care, and the families who open up their doors to foster. The fewer placements youth endure, the more likely they are to overcome the statistics they face. Decreasing placements for youth experiencing foster care (placement stability) is a cornerstone of our mission and programs – and every person can have a role in it. Some choose to foster. Some choose to volunteer. Some choose to stand in the gap by consistently supporting this life-changing work through a monthly donation. Connect With A Wish delivers services in the gaps left in the community and works with government and civic leaders to protect our most vulnerable. Have you heard about our Build-A-Box events? 💛📦 In a world where youth experiencing foster care will move households, on average, seven times within two years – where children and youth have so few things they call their own, that moving from one place to another means all their belongings will fit into a single bag…imagine what it would feel like for those children to open up a big box, custom-built just for them, filled with things they’ve wished for and need. Imagine how seen they would feel. Imagine how supported their fostering family would feel. Imagine the statistic-changing ripple effect this kind of support could have. 🤯 Charlotte Angels offers individual groups and corporate partners the opportunity to come together to build Love Boxes, filled with hand-picked items for children and youth experiencing foster care. The impact of these boxes extends beyond the items inside. The hope, support, and sense of belonging that comes along with them is tremendous. Every Christmas, Christa adopts two children from the foster care system, ensuring they receive gifts from their "Santa" wish list, along with necessary clothing, to light up their holiday season. Why Christa Inspires Us: Beyond the gifts, Christa's tradition is a lesson in compassion and generosity. By involving her oldest grandson in selecting the presents, she's passing on the values of empathy and community support to the next generation. Her actions remind us that the spirit of the holiday is about more than just receiving; it's about giving and making a difference in the lives of those who need it most. I would like to live a life that’s full of stories. I heard that recently. I can’t get it out of my head. Different iterations of that phrase have been building ever since. I would like to live a life that _________. makes a difference. raises people up. makes the most of every minute. says yes to standing in the gap for at-risk children and youth who need community. Who need us. Amarillo Angels gives us the opportunity to live a life that’s full of impact. A life full of stories. A life full of minutes taking a stand with other champions in our communities. Today is National Foster Care Awareness Day. In celebration of this day, will you consider joining our community of monthly donors? You may have experienced foster care. You may know someone who has. Or you may be the kind of person who believes that the challenges of children and youth across the country are just as real as the challenges of the children and youth who live next door or under your roof. We see you and we invite you to be a part of this community of support. It’s more than minutes. It’s about more than the minutes it takes to read this email or watch a video – it’s about the action that could come from it. It’s about more than the minutes it takes for a child to enter the foster system. It’s about the life-changing ramifications – and the people and relationships that come after. We all have the same amount of time in a day: 1,440 minutes. What if we didn’t look at that as time, but as opportunities to stand in the gap and make a difference? 10 minutes could be used to check in on a foster family. 3 minutes could be used to set up a monthly donation. 8 minutes could be used to watch and share a video to increase our reach. Organizations like Fostering Hope Foundation provide us an opportunity to reflect on and ask the questions, "What can we do better? How can we create a positive impact on someone else's day? Their life? How can we make someone feel seen?" People in our firm like J. Mike Carroll and Harrison Hunter, CFP®MBA who serve on the Fostering Hope Colorado Springs committee are doing good, positively impacting an organization bigger than themselves, making people's days better, changing LIVES, and helping these children, teens, and foster parents feel seen - all with their involvement with Fostering Hope. Without programs like Fostering Hope, statistics show that of children in the El Paso County Foster System: --> 35% do not graduate or get a GED. --> 52% are employed. --> As many as 50% are experiencing homelessness within their first 2 years out of the system. With children involved in Fostering Hope: --> 100% of program participants graduate or get a GED. --> 85% are employed. --> <7% experience homelessness within their first 2 years after graduating out of the program. Today's annual fundraiser and the stories shared were a reminder of why community is so important, and how this career lends us the opportunity to become involved with and give back to local organizations that are doing GOOD.
