Corio Generation and Brazilian shipyard and marine construction company Estaleiros do Brasil (EBR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to evaluate the suitability of EBR's shipyard and construction facilities as a potential offshore wind hub for southern Brazil. Under the agreement, the two companies will examine how EBR's existing infrastructure could support the deployment of two wind farms planned for the south of the country, namely the 1,200+ MW Cassino Offshore Wind and 1,200+ MW Rio Grande Offshore Wind projects, with the potential to enter commercial negotiations to reserve part of an area used to facilitate the projects. The EBR shipyard, located close to Rio Grande port in Brazil's southern province of Rio Grande do Sul, covers an area of approximately 1.7 million square kilometres, with extensive facilities for building floating platforms for the oil and gas industry. According to Corio, this expertise could be adapted and utilised for the construction of offshore wind farms. Corio is aiming to develop five fixed-bottom offshore wind farms in Brazil, totalling up to 6 GW, together with Servtec. Four of these projects, totalling approximately 4.8 GW, are located off the southern and south-eastern coastlines of the country. The team behind the 1.4 GW Cenos floating offshore wind project in Scotland is gearing up for a nearshore survey campaign this March to revalidate data collected in 2017 by the NorthConnect AS interconnector project. Starting March 11th, export cable corridor surveys aboard the Seafast Don are set to take between three to ten days, weather permitting. The campaign includes mapping the seabed with a multibeam echo sounder along a 150-meter-wide corridor from landfall to a 12-nautical-mile point offshore. Key habitats will be identified using an ROV and video surveys, providing a live video feed to the vessel. Seven 100-meter transects within a 500-meter corridor will be scrutinized. Located off Peterhead, 200 kilometers offshore in the UK Central North Sea, the Cenos project is a collaboration between Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn, contributing 1.4 GW to the region's renewable energy landscape. AC power generated by the floating wind farm will be routed to a substation platform and exported to nearby oil and gas platforms. The substation includes a converter station for transporting DC power to shore and integration into the grid. Ørsted, Simply Blue Group and Subsea7 have set up the joint venture ‘Salamander’ to submit an application for a floating wind farm off the coast of northeast Scotland. In what appears to be a growing trend, the floating wind farm will be used to supply power to oil and gas platforms in the North Sea. At 100MW generation capacity it will not be a large wind farm, but the JV is calling it a stepping stone in what it calls the UK’s ‘journey to net zero’. “Crucially, Salamander will give the Scottish floating wind supply chain a major early capability development opportunity, supporting its scale-up ahead of the pipeline of projects leased under the ScotWind and INTOG (Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas) seabed leasing rounds,” said the JV. The INTOG round awarded exclusivity agreements to two types of projects – small scale innovation projects of less than 100 MW, and larger projects aiming to decarbonise oil and gas infrastructure. Salamander bid for and won an Exclusivity Agreement under the innovation category. “We have submitted a high-quality, thorough consent application and we’re committed to continue working with the necessary stakeholders throughout the approval process,” said Hugh Yendole, project director for Salamander. 🌍 Polenergia and Equinor have signed contracts with several companies for the development of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms in Poland. ✅ ENPROM, a Polish company, will be responsible for designing and constructing the onshore cable infrastructure, including 220 kV and 400 kV cable tracks and fiber optic cables. The Smulders-Sif consortium will manufacture and supply transition pieces, monopiles, and secondary steel components, with assembly occurring in Belgium. Petrobras has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gather insights and conduct studies related to the design, supply, construction, assembly, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of offshore wind power plants in shallow waters off the Brazilian coast. Interested parties have until May 31st to respond. The state-controlled oil company provided basic characteristics of its potential offshore wind generation projects such as LDA, distance to shore, power generated, wind turbine capacity, array cables, export cables and foundation type. Petrobras is developing other #offshore wind projects in Brazil A month ago the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to install a pilot offshore wind project in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, located in Northeast Brazil.
