The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) awarded (July ’24) awarded contracts to six startups to identify, develop, and implement privacy-enhancing digital wallet technologies. Each received between $187K–$199K USD. Across the piece, they are working on in-person identity verification and authentication (Credence ID), privacy-preserving key management for digital wallets (Hushmesh Inc.), fleet management onboarding and authorization (Netis - Web3 Consulting & Development), multi-credential wallet support (@Provicis), digital wallet interoperability (SpruceID), credentials control and recovery (ubiqu). Here is a big congratulations to them all. Much like government investment in the 1950s, under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, for the U.S., national highway infrastructure projects like this are VERY important. Last week, DHS published that two men pled guilty to manufacturing fake IDs overseas which were sold in the U.S. These weren’t just being used by kids trying to buy beer underage – one customer used his fake ID in a scheme to fence stolen cars. As we transition into the digital world, it’s possible to prevent this kind of identity fraud while increasing user control by using verifiable digital credentials. https://lnkd.in/g36bWA3A This is why I am excited that SpruceID will innovate on these important credentials through the DHS Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP) by adding new functionality to our open-source software. This will allow us to support digital credentials that can significantly improve immigration and travel, while also increasing individual autonomy across the United States.
We’re thrilled to announce that SpruceID has been selected to work with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on their initiative to bring convenience, security, and privacy to individuals using digital versions of credentials issued for immigration and travel. Our open-source libraries will be used to build digital credential wallets and verifier capabilities to support standards while ensuring safe usage and interoperability across sectors like finance, healthcare, and various cross-border applications. We look forward to collaborating with DHS to help maintain secure digital interactions that enhance our resident experience with digital credentials across the United States. The Question of Who You Are - One of the critical challenges of our technology-driven, interconnected world is identity. “Going forward, the government wants to ensure individuals have agency and control over their digital interactions,” said Goodwin. “The user should be able to own their identity and decide when to share it, and we don’t want a system that has to reach back to an agency for verification.” Curious about advancements in identity verification? Check out the DHS Science and Technology Directorate's and USCIS's article: “Question Who You Are.” This insightful read dives into the evolving landscape of identity technologies and their impact on security and privacy. Here are three key highlights: Emerging Technologies: Explore how biometric systems, like facial recognition and fingerprint analysis, are advancing to offer more secure and efficient identity verification. Privacy Concerns: Learn about the balance between enhancing security and protecting individual privacy, and how new regulations are addressing these challenges. Future Trends: Discover predictions on how identity verification technologies will evolve, including potential impacts on personal freedom and data security. We want to participate in the way digital wallets are designed in the European Union. - And just like data is essential to progress and innovation, so are partnerships. And that's why we’re reaching out to you today🤝. Are you a part of an existing EIDAS consortium, or are you in the process of establishing one as part of the new eIDAS pilot EU-funded projects that are currently up for tender? Then we invite you to connect with us, to discuss how our innovative technology can take your project to the next level. DIDs enable a self-sovereign identity (SSI) model that significantly benefits organisations by enhancing privacy, improving security, reducing fraud risks, and streamlining identity verification processes, while also giving individuals full control over their digital identities, without relying on centralised authorities. The way we do this is by employing advanced zero-knowledge protocols and we even go one step beyond with Multi-Party-Computation (MPC). Our strong technical and innovative solutions compels us to continuously seek new endeavors. Therefore, we’ve set our sights on eIDAS - with the aim of contributing to the establishment of a convenient and secure method for European citizens and businesses to authenticate their identity, using their digital ID for both public and private sector interactions. Let’s discuss how we can collaborate on shaping the way we use digital identity systems in the future! 🔊 Please reach out to Nikolaj Hartvig here on LinkedIn or contact him on: nikolaj.hartvig@partisia.com #EIDAS #Digitalwallet #EUDigitalIdentityWallet #DigitalIdentityWallet #DID
