🌟 Empower Workplace Diversity through Sponsorship! 🌟 Ever wondered how a sponsorship program can make your workplace more diverse? Here's why it matters: Sponsorship isn't just about offering support—it's about actively championing the advancement of individuals from all backgrounds. By sponsoring talented individuals who bring diverse perspectives and experiences, organizations can break down barriers and create an environment where everyone thrives. Here's a closer look at the power of sponsorship: 1. Advocacy: Sponsors advocate for their protégés, ensuring they receive the recognition and opportunities they deserve. This advocacy can be crucial in challenging biases and promoting diversity at all levels of the organization. 2. Networking: Sponsors provide access to invaluable networks and connections, opening doors to new opportunities and helping protégés expand their horizons. By fostering diverse networks, sponsorship helps create pathways for individuals who might otherwise face barriers to advancement. 3. Skill Development: Sponsors offer guidance, mentorship, and support, helping protégés develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in their careers. This personalized support can be transformative, especially for individuals who have been traditionally underrepresented in leadership roles. Are you waiting patiently in line for partnership? Have you had honest conversations—not only with your sponsoring partner, but also group head, and possibly managing partner—about whether it’s going to happen? If you’ve had an affirmative answer, the next question you need to ask is 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻. This is key. If there is no clear answer to this then the firm doesn’t necessarily have a plan for you. If the answer is when you can show you have your own client base worth a certain amount a year, then it is up to you to decide if you are in a position to deliver on this. As well as asking direct questions to work out if you have the required support, you also need to assess your environment. Look at the composition and age of the partners in the group. Is there a partner who is close to retirement? Is this a situation of one out, one up? Are you in a good position to inherit a practice? It’s also important to look at the gender balance and diversity of the existing partners. If the partnership lacks diversity and you won’t help move the dial in a positive way, are you wasting your time waiting in this particular queue? At Marsden our experienced and friendly consultants offer honest and practical career guidance. Last week, we shared our findings from our second Flair Race in the Workplace Survey in the UK and our progress to date against our Racial Equity Plan with over 150 of our people. Our partnership with FLAIR, a racial equity technology company, supports our efforts to better understand how race affects our employees' experiences within the workplace. Penny Angell, UK Office Managing Partner welcomed attendees, reiterated the importance of fostering racial equity within the firm, and thanked those who completed the latest Flair Race in the Workplace Survey. Liam Naidoo, DEI Partner and REAHL Network Co-chair, and Talia Chirouf (She/Her), DEI Manager - EMEA discussed the findings from the Flair 2.0 Race in the Workplace Survey 2023. We had a fantastic 80% completion rate, providing a robust data set to monitor our progress against the key improvement areas of our Racial Equity Plan since the first survey in 2022. The presentation also highlighted the key actions we have taken to address the areas of improvement identified by Flair over the past year, and the next steps following the latest survey findings. #DiversityEquityAndInclusion #HoganLovells #RacialEquity #RaceAndEthnicity #LegalDiversity
