Thank you, RCC Business IT, for the opportunity to interview for the IT Support role today. I want to share my experience of how it went and what to expect from first-round interviews. I had the pleasure of a nearly 20-minute interview with Zach, which felt more like a conversation. We began by discussing who I am, when I developed my passion for IT, and some activities from my regular life to better illustrate what type of person I am. We then talked about my past non-IT-related jobs; I did HVAC work and tried to relate some of that experience to IT, such as configuring Wi-Fi thermostats, automating them into the system, and troubleshooting, which really requires looking deeper than the error code provided by the software. We covered my education and IT projects, although I could have described them better, honestly. Zach then asked if I had ever worked with servers, hinting at Active Directory experience. I shared what I knew about the topic, admitting that I have not worked with it professionally, but an Active Directory project on Windows Server is definitely on my list of personal projects to do. When an interviewer asks if you have any questions at the end, always ask them something. I inquired about how they would utilize my skills if they hired me, what ticketing system they use, and some additional details about the company.

Escalation path: Understand and follow the appropriate escalation path within your organization. This may involve escalating the issue to a supervisor, manager, or specialized team. Ensure you are aware of the proper channels to follow to ensure a timely resolution. TBC

We recently completed a retained search for a Contracts Specialist with a leading European construction group and successfully placed a great candidate into the role 🚀 And it wasn't an easy profile to recruit whatsoever. Extremely specific and not many people in the market with such experience. But halfway through the search, we noticed another headhunter had, by some strong coincidence (and quite brazenly) posted the same job, with the same job description, even written exactly the same as ours...... Strange 😵 Given that the role was exclusive and having worked with the client for over 8 years we were able to talk through this and work out what was going on 💡 It's one thing trying to be speculative, but it's another when you're quite blatantly copying and pasting another company's job description when they or the customer have not in any way given permission to do this. It makes recruiters look unprofessional and it also impacts clients from an employer branding perspective when retained searches then appear like that on the open market..... I'm all for being opportunistic but this is not the kind of game I'm in ❌ Maybe it's worth a company winning its own work rather than trying to use the backdoor and create an unnecessarily messy situation......

Well, someone is getting a little desperate Today I received a cold email from a recruiter, who clearly hadn't put much effort into their target list. The approach, as far as I can tell, was being cheap (10%) Trouble is, many businesses out there are looking to cut costs. 10% could be a big saving on a role that's not urgent. Maybe they let this guy have a go, see if they get lucky. It's especially likely to happen at clients you know are a bit quiet, so you haven't spoken in a couple months. The defence against this - client care regime. A structured approach to contact which means you're in regular contact with every client, even the quiet ones. Adding value and showing we give a crap about them as people, not just as a source of revenue. Front of mind, and first choice are the result and they are your best protection against poachers using low rates as lures.

Due diligence is also required before accepting a new offer from the employer/company. Do get a market reference of the company you want to join. Market reference matters a lot.

After a brief hiatus due to food poisoning, Athena and I are back, and caffeinated! Recently, a hiring manager shared with me the misconception that contracting staff are less technically skilled. However, I believe this is a myth. In fact, contracting is a great way to continuously increase your skill set in both technical and interpersonal areas, ultimately advancing your career. While due diligence is important in understanding the purpose of a contract, especially if it's short term, contractors are skilled in adapting quickly and adding value to the team. They thrive in environments where they can grow and upskill. So, if you're struggling to find the perfect candidate or have an immediate opening hurting your business, don't shy away from trying a contract solution. The first candidate presented is usually the one that is hired. We present candidates within the first 24 hours of the initial deep dive call with our clients and one thing we have realized is usually the first few candidates we send are the candidates the client moves ahead with. One thing to note to engineering leaders, usually the best candidates are always presented first. There is no need to review 8494949393 resumes for one position.

Hello All, Many people get confused on cooling period of 6 months in interview. - If you are attending for an MNC firm for certain process and get rejected, there is no rule that u cannot apply in that company for another 3 or 6 months based on cooling period. If you apply for different dept again, you are also eligible to apply after 3 weeks or after one month. It depends on the company where they are fine to take candidates and push in different process. Even in 2022 March- April and also in May - June 2024 duration few candidates of mine joined the company, even after getting rejected in same firm before 6 months cooling period.
