Saying 'hy' to a new strategy. 👋
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water have released a new National Hydrogen Strategy.
The refreshed strategy aims to help potential producers, transporters and users of hydrogen to build business cases and develop infrastructure with some investment confidence. We're proud to have contributed to the strategy with expert analysis and research.

Just wondering what’s happening with sulphur ion batteries. If they could be made less volatile Australia’s electric car industry would flourish
Hydrogen and sulphur ion batteries would give electric cars way way better mileage
Atlantica participated in several consultations in 2023 to help shape New Brunswick's energy future.
The report from one of these consultations was released yesterday by the Official Opposition: https://ow.ly/vNYL50QrX7u
Pages 7 - 9 outline the province's energy challenges and shares recommendations gathered from stakeholders last August to help address some of these challenges.
Learn more about Atlantica's top priorities for New Brunswick's energy future by reading the submission to New Brunswick's Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environment.

“A climate safe future is a necessary condition for peace, but we won’t achieve a climate safe future without peace”
I came across this thought provoking TED talk by Olivia Lazard covering the often forgotten about close coupling between decarbonisation and geopolitics. It reminded me that as we push for and progress to a clean energy future, it is important to pay attention to the unintended consequences. There are a lot of lessons we can learn from the unintended consequences of fossil fuel adoption both environmentally and geopolitically.

⚡ What do “African Energy Transitions” mean to you?
For Jide Ikeako from ClimateWorks Foundation it’s about ensuring that the energy transition goes hand-in-hand with energy access.
Through #AfricanEnergyDialogues, we are bringing together voices from across the continent to help African countries chart their own path to a sustainable energy future.

We have published a summary of the feedback and areas for further consideration for Department for the Economy NI, following our joint Call for Evidence with Consumer Council for Northern Ireland on protecting consumers during energy decarbonisation.
The Call for Evidence was issued in response to Action 3 within Department for the Economy NI’s Energy Strategy – Action Plan 2022, with the aim of identifying the future need for the protection of energy consumers during the transition to net zero.
The paper published today will be a useful contribution to emerging thinking on how a just transition to decarbonisation, required by the Climate Change Act, can be delivered in Northern Ireland.

Scotland's near-term decarbonisation targets (75% by 2030) went up in smoke yesterday: https://bit.ly/4d2yHPm.
The action was deemed inevitable by many, after repeated misses of statutory annual reduction levels that were legally codified in the Emissions Reduction Target Act.
Meeting targets requires policy to be enacted and with targets for boiler replacement and ICE phase-out being scrapped as well as insulation and heat pump installation diktats being repeatedly tinkered, the UK Climate Change Committee had already described the Scottish targets as "no longer credible", a month back.
Targets provide headline-grabbing attention, but there has long been a steady drumbeat of assessment around the robustness and quality of enaction associated with them.
For now, this seems a localised issue of a target based on aspiration rather than planning - yet it stands as a precedent that few wanted to see set.
Scotland's ignominious international position stands in contrast to European peers such as Sweden and Denmark that have made steady progress on their overall goals, whilst others are already ticking off individual 2030 targets relating to energy consumption, energy productivity and energy from renewables.
Best invest in Building and talking about Fusion power, space, and maritime propulsion systems and industry as data centres are.
You talk about Nuclear (meaning Fission) and fail to discuss fusion.

The nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you.
Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun.
Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission.

Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally.

By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period.

A pleasure to join Rector Federica Mogherini at the College of Europe today to deliver a lecture on Europe's role in the global clean energy transition
I highlighted that a new industrial masterplan is vital for Europe to compete globally & to be on track for its energy & climate goals
🌍 The European Alliance to Save Energy (EU-ASE) co-signs a joint letter urging Environment and Climate ministers and EU decision makers to endorse a greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of at least 90% by 2040.
A robust #climate target and #decarbonisation of the economy will bring extensive benefits:
🚀 It will boost EU #competitiveness, increase #resilience, and position the EU as a leader in sustainable industries.
🔋 It will significantly improve energy #security for citizens and businesses.
⚡ It will position the EU as a leader in climate action by phasing out fossil fuels, tripling global renewable deployment, and doubling #energyefficiency rates.
