Yesterday saw Team Cubico join nearly 30,000 other participants for the annual JP Morgan Corporate Challenge in London. This year we had a record-breaking turnout with over 43 staff members taking part! 🏃♂️🏃♀️ Promoting social and environmental causes through sport is central to our CSR ethos at Cubico. The proceeds from yesterday's event were donated to the youth homelessness charity Centrepoint, highlighting the power of sport as a force for good. 🌱💪 A special thanks to Sean Fitzpatrick for organising our participation in the event and completing the 5.6K run in rapid time at just over 18 minutes! 🚀👏 #JPMCC24 #CSR

Reading this and intrigued about what you and your business could do to bring about change? DM, comment below or follow us on socials. Together, we can end homelessness
Homelessness is more of a problem than we recognise! It was great to be invited by Fran Darlington-Pollock & Dolores Panetier to join what could be a powerhouse network of hospitality professionals to combat a concerning crises of homelessness across Greater Manchester. Both charities Only A Pavement Away & Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity are partners for Manchester Hospitality Network & Growth Partners PLC so i'm really excited about getting stuck into this and making a huge difference! Great discussions around the room and If anyone in my network would like to get involved or learn more about the organisations, please give me a shout! #ManchesterHospitalityNetwork

It Takes TWO
We recently carried out a deep clean on the floors at CISCA House, which is a drop-in day centre on Canvey Island that provides a safe and supportive space for people aged over 55. We have been servicing CISCA House for a number of years and take great pride in delivering support to such an important facility for the local community. Our work was incredibly well received - here's what the charity's joint chairpersons had to say: "I wanted to say how impressed we are by the standard of the cleaning/polishing of our main hall floor on Saturday and the two young men who did the job were exemplary." #floorcleaning #commercialcleaning

Such an important cause! Homelessness can affect an individual's mental health and wellbeing so let's support the team to help raise awareness and tackle homelessness in 2024. You are inspirational. #Sleepout2024
Exciting News! 📣📣 The Yorkshire North and East Methodist District and Carecent are preparing for the annual Sleep Out for Homelessness Event later this month. ⛺🏚️ Individuals will sleep outside to raise money and awareness about homelessness and the lives it affects. All funds raised will be going to Carecent and Inspire North! ❤️ Initially inspired by a group of young people, this is the fifth year of the sleepout. In that time, they have raised over £20,000, which has gone to local charities, Carecent, Inspire North and SASH. What a great way to start the year.....Please support Malcolm (our Director of Finance & Risk) to raise money for this great cause, if you can. The streets are a very cold and dangerous place to live, especially at this time of year. In today's society, this should not be the only option for anyone, when life doesn't quite work out the way you planned. Please help Malcolm and Centrepoint give those less fortunate the help and support they need to rebuild their lives. https://lnkd.in/e5znRYdK
Happy New Year Everyone - are you feeling charitable in 2024. On 23rd February I will be joining around 100 others on a fundraiser for Centrepoint and sleeping rough on the streets of London for one night. Unfortunately, there are many young people who are not as fortunate as many of us, and through no fault of their own are having to spend the winter on the streets. Centrepoint help homeless youth, by providing them with somewhere safe to live, counselling and advice, so they can start to rebuild their lives. The charity relies heavily on support and donations from the likes of you and me. If you feel that you can help me raise funds for this worthwhile charity please visit my Just Giving page, all donations are gratefully received. https://lnkd.in/e5znRYdK Thanks All!

★ Fundraising Architect ★ Copywriting Maestro ★ Donor Myth Buster – working with world-changing non-profits
I have always thought government funding is a double-edged sword. I’m not saying a charity should never accept government funding but if you do advocacy, want to influence public policy or are a faith-based non-profit then your voice is going to be affected or silenced or you will run up against opposing values when receiving government funding. In my early days as a fundraiser, I would frequently suggest producing fundraising appeals where we would challenge government policy as part of the messaging. This was never accepted on the basis that “it will affect our relationships with XX government department from whom we receive funding”. I always thought this was crazy especially when government policy was partly or largely responsible for a rise in demand for services or imminent non-profit budget problems. Like the time the government slashed foreign aid funding to its lowest ever levels (and that has never been completely restored regardless of which party was in power). Or the ongoing lack of adequate government action on affordable social housing which is contributing to a rise in homelessness. Or the woefully inadequate investment into the country's mental health epidemic. Or the posturing and fudging around environmental laws that would save endangered species. I could go on but you get the idea. Such issues lend themselves to advocacy fundraising (which I would LOVE to do more of) but I never bother suggesting it any more because non-profits just won't do it because they fear the risk of losing a funding source. I understand in many cases that government funding is a big proportion of a non-profit's funding model. But there are instances where a charity would do well to try reducing its reliance on government funding in order to have a stronger public voice. It's also good risk management - I've been called in on several occasions by a panicked charity desperate to raise funds because their government funding was allocated elsewhere that year, often leaving a budget hole in the hundreds of thousands if not millions. Just because you get government funding one year doesn't mean you'll get it the year after.

I heard a CEO recently at a charity conference advise us to not be critical of the Federal Government publicly, as to do so would jeopardise their chance at funding. My question is what is the cost of that silence? What is the purpose of that funding or even the existence of us as charities if it’s not to change the very systems that create this inequality in the first place we see at our doors. That is rarely possible without public advocacy and campaigning. Also disheartening was the inability to imagine thriving as a charity without Federal Government funding. And not understanding the incredible impact and influence you can have when you are independent. With my team we have built what is now a $25 million a year charity without a dollar of Federal Government funding. I encourage other CEOs to imagine a different vision and way.

Do you know a school, charity, community group, sports club or guide/scout group that could do with a little more funding (between £500 -£1500)? If so please do point them in the direction of Tesco Stronger Starts funding.
