In Switzerland the Botnar Foundation has today decided to invest more than 1 billion USD in top quality immune engineering science over the next 15 years. By the way the same breakthrough technology that Engimmune Therapeutics is also based on. Also - in contrast to Denmark where university professors receive zero funds from their employers - the Swiss universities are in the global top class. It is such ambitious initiatives - not least together with the very favourable economic conditions for entrepreneurs that enables Switzerland to attract and maintain world class entrepreneurs and venture capital - that keep the country among the global start-up elite. Denmark could learn A LOT from Switzerland.

GRANTS! Alzheimer's Research UK Inspire Fund - deadline 14th October / info webinar 17th September The seed funding call is open to new applicants to the Inspire Fund. We encourage applications from people, organisations and communities with ideas, passion and ability to realise innovative public engagement projects on the topic of dementia. From those within or outside the research community, those with a track record in public engagement and those looking to apply their skills to this important issue for the first time. Through the scheme, we want to build relationships between communities and researchers, and are especially interested in proposals led by community groups or organisations. We strongly encourage applicants to forge links with collaborators or groups to strengthen ideas. We recognise this can take time, and will be supporting relationship building in funded projects. Projects can use a range of methods to engage with their audience. FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: Philanthropic donations to the University of Utah's Center for Genomic Medicine will support two to three Clinical Pilot Awards of $30,000 to $50,000 each. The mission of the Center for Genomic Medicine is to transform healthcare by catalyzing the translation of basic genomic research into equitable, personalized healthcare. The awards are focused on executing clinical applications of this mission. Seed grants will be awarded for a period of one year and are expected to have measurable deliverables/outcomes after the one-year funding period. Pacific Economic Development Canada | Développement économique Canada pour le Pacifique has awarded $5 million to SBME for a new Biodevice Foundry set to launch in our new building in January 2025. A $2.5 million donation from the Conconi Family Foundation helped to unlock the federal grant.    The Biodevice Foundry is a state-of-the-art facility for designing, prototyping, fabricating and testing biodevices that will help accelerate biomedical innovation and grow the life sciences industry to transform health locally and globally.     “The SBME community is thrilled to receive this funding—it will help discover and translate new biodevices that will impact patient health and fuel life sciences industry both locally and globally. BBSRC ICURe Explore funds, trains and supports research teams from: UK universities BBSRC-funded institutes approved public sector research enterprises This specific cohort is a pilot collaboration between BBSRC and medical research charities Kidney Research UK and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In this round, the programme will support academic innovators who have received funding from either UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) or partner medical research charities whose research aligns BBSRC’s standard ICURe scope.
