CIE CEO Kevin Mayne spoke today at the POLIS Network Cycling Declaration breakfast, alongside POLIS Secretary General Karen Vancluysen and European Cyclists' Federation CEO Jill Warren. The panel praised the #EUCyclingDeclaration as a pivotal policy document for the cycling community and covered several highlights:  📈 Recognition of the cycling industry's potential to contribute to economic growth 🤝 Building capacity and structures to support Europe’s growing cycling economy 🌐 The significance of collecting and using data to benchmark mobility policies and ridership 🚴♂️ The importance of developing multi-modal solutions focused on sustainable transport 🏡 Exploring new solutions for bike sharing in suburban areas   CIE’s expert groups have been pivotal to identify, discuss and promote policy solutions that enable cycling like the ones covered during today’s event. If you want to share your views and learn from peers across the industry, contribute to better cycling policies and collaborate on projects for the collective good of the industry, our door is open! In the meantime, we will strive to make sure that the #EUCyclingDeclaration delivers the positive change for the cycling industry and ridership it promises.

Reading this article I learned that the countermeasures are simple and cheap: - citizens reclaiming their streets - implement cycling schools - education, protecting people from industrial marketing mechanisms But the key element is activism: unfortunately people need to keep fighting this dominant idea that cars are the solution. Cars are great in an balanced modality mix: less - or no ownership and shared. The Fietsersbond is already opposing the dominance of carcentric policies for more than 50 years. Starting in the ‘70s. Many people talk about environmental factors in production, transport, development and much more. It is of course important that we consider these factors. But in my opinion it is also important to talk about durability in these times. Do you buy cheap/poor quality to throw away after a short time? Do you primarily buy things because of the current fashion and then buy new ones when the fashion changes and the product is no longer fashionable? or do you choose the classic design and the good quality so that it can last for a lifetime? https://lnkd.in/djPhaTu9

Exactly! What may of of us in BASC, HUBS Coop, ALABIKE have advocating for. Identify the places (nodes, hubs, attractions) then build safe infrastructure connection to those "places" and is how to build a network for pedestrians, bikes, transit, even cars. this would be a good webinar to watch!
