Values-based leadership, a core priority for the Aspen Institute Central Europe, is essential for overcoming contemporary threats and maintaining the essential coherence of civilization.🤝 President Petr Pavel emphasized that the common denominator of current threats is the rejection of the existing international order based not only on rules but also on universal values that form the basis for our way of life. "There is a growing need and importance for individuals to lead the effort to defend them. Therefore, it is important that today's and tomorrow's leaders actively defend and promote the common values of civilization, even within democratic societies.“

An interesting #bigquestions from Alan Richards today when you consider a recent blog by Emma Knights for the National Governance Association where she refers to: "...governance workload has been largely overlooked to date. Yet, quietly behind the scenes, it is becoming overwhelming for many volunteers. This cannot continue under the radar..." Was so disappointed to hear today that alongside the 'slimming down' of the Governance handbook, the Governor & Clerking Competency frameworks are to be archived by Department for Education. Those of us supporting strategic governance really do need to come together and consider the message this sends not only for Governing Boards but our own services too. What about a national framework where we can ensure there is robust consistency across all sectors, Trust or Local Authority, which means they are held accountable on the same terms? As it stands, this is really worrying about what it means for how Governors will source support & guidance. School Leaders have a national framework and access to NLEs so why are those who volunteer their time, skills & experience being left to navigate the many avenues of guidance this will create? What will be the national standard of qualifying someone to be experienced enough in supporting Governing Boards? How will those offering support be protected should they not agree with a Trust or LAs approach? https://lnkd.in/gyMtvY8S Independent Governor Support Jan Linsley John Eccleston Fiona Collier Charlotte Hodgson Amy Wright Jayne Hadfield Victoria Del Giudice Su Garbutt Rosemary Hoyle

Remember that not all commanding officers and generals are fully equipped for their assigned roles. Consequently, the staff officers must work together to ensure the success of the commanding officer. They must effectively translate the higher command's intentions into actionable plans for their current and subordinate units. This is essential to prevent the commanding officer, who may lack the necessary skills and awareness, from making misguided decisions that could jeopardize the mission. A competent staff can compensate for a leader’s deficiencies, ensuring the overarching goals are achieved and maintaining integrity and trust within the system. This is the key to succeeding despite leadership gaps.

Key messages from the session with public sector infrastructure leaders: - the pipeline of work needs to be supported by funding and financing tools fit for scale and purpose - asset management is the key to understand the case for renewals and the need for new assets - once the need is established the Business Case and approval process should be much simpler - our public sector infrastructure professionals take their responsibility very seriously and are committed to finding good outcomes - finding the right solutions and value for money takes time, so spend that time planning, before jumping to announcements - some stuff we just need to get on with, like building safer roads and replacing aging facilities, so just get on with it already! Thanks to all those who shared their insights. I'm looking forward, with Minister Christopher Bishop, to delivering the infrastructure system New Zealand needs to improve economic growth and higher productivity.

1moAnother great collaboration between the Defence Academy and Cranfield University. Perhaps the last to be academically led by the fantastic Professor Bryan Watters after many years of amazing service. An honour to be involved with such a great team.
