Joint venture Ameresco Sunel Energy SA has started constructing solar developer Lighsource bp's 560MW Enipeas solar PV project in #Greece, the largest in its portfolio. The Enipeas project, co-funded by the European Union is located in the regions of Larissa and Fthiotida and is expected to reach completion within 24 months. It comprises two clusters: Skopia, a 400MWp southern cluster and Kalithea and a 160MWp northern cluster, where nearly 970,000 photovoltaic modules will be installed. Upon completion, the project is expected to generate 0.90TWh of electricity annually, powering the equivalent of 225,000 households and avoiding CO2 emissions by 379 kt per year. Mokoan Solar Farm — European Energy’s first Financial Close in Australia I'm thrilled to share that EE Australia has begun construction on the Mokoan Solar Farm, our first project in Australia, located in the Hume region of Victoria. Australia presents a highly promising market for renewable energy projects. Currently, we have over 5 GW under active development in Australia and a further 3 GW in screening, and we aim to realize these projects in the coming years Upon completion, the Mokoan Solar Farm will power over 15,000 households and reduce carbon emissions by more than 85,000 tonnes annually. Independent Power Producer, SolarAfrica Energy, has officially broken ground on its first utility-scale solar farm based in the Northern Cape. The solar farm is $275M (R5 billion) development project. Known as SunCentral, Phase 1 of this project will total around 342 MW in generation capacity, with Phases 2 and 3 bringing the total size to an impressive 1 GW – making it one of the largest projects of its kind in the country. During the breaking ground ceremony, David McDonald, CEO of SolarAfrica Energy, explained the significance and strength of the partnerships behind SunCentral – a key driver behind its success. “A project of this magnitude wouldn’t have been possible without the power of partnerships. Over the past decade, Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd has found new and tangible ways of making wheeling a reality in South Africa. Their dedication to partnering with the private sector is proof of their commitment to address South Africa’s power generation struggles,” McDonald said. A special mention went to Soventix SA (Pty) Ltd South Africa. The company originally developed the project for submission into the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPP). Soventix sold the rights to Phase 1 of the cluster development to SolarAfrica and will continue to develop Phases 2 and 3 for the project as time progresses. Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) firms Proconics and Sinohydro are instrumental to the project’s success. Proconics will install SunCentral’s Main Transmission Substation (MTS) while Sinohydro will be responsible for the installation of more than 500 000 solar panels. The groundbreaking Grootspruit solar #photovoltaic (PV) plant in the Free State, South Africa, has been heralded to officially begin construction of the facility that is expected to contribute to meeting the needs of approximately 80,000 South African households The Grootspruit plant will meet the power requirements of these households alongside another #75MW plant – Graspan in the Northern Cape – also under construction. Both plants are expected to be commissioned by the end of 2025 and will, together, reduce greenhouse emissions in the country by approximately 100,000 tons of CO2 per year. Transitioning to a net zero environment The plant will be built and operated in partnership with Pele Green Energy and Aurex and Ablon have been selected as the preferred contractors for the project. Mo Hoosen, CEO and managing director of renewables for Asia, Middle East & Africa at ENGIE, added, “With more than 15 years of presence in the country and over 1.6GW of multiple assets currently in operation, executing such significant projects requires extensive collaboration with partners like Pele Green Energy and the Free State Provincial Government, as well as numerous engineers, builders, and contractors.
