Precision Medicine Online interviewed DELFI CMO Peter B. and President & COO Jenn Buechel for an article on #DELFI’s partnership with Indigenous Pact PBC, Inc., a company focused on improving healthcare delivery for Indigenous Americans, on a program bringing our blood-based cell-free DNA fragmentomics assay to aid lung cancer screening, the FirstLook Test, to rural Native American communities. According to Kurt Brenkus, CEO of Indigenous Pact, some rural tribal health systems don't have LDCTs, meaning patients need to travel to another health system, sometimes hours away, to get a lung cancer screening. "American Indians and Alaska Natives have the highest health disparities out of any population in the United States, and cancer is no exception. The fact that this small blood test can be transported into these rural areas and be administered through a primary care setting is a game-changing technology." DELFI’s CMO, Peter B. Bach said "By working with Indigenous Pact, we hope we can help improve lung cancer screening rates in the Native community where lung cancer has the greatest burden." This sentiment echoes DELFI's fundamental goal of making lung cancer screening more accessible to all. The #healthcare system, while advanced, grapples with several significant #challenges like one prominent one, a #symptom-centric approach. Sometimes #overlooking #holistic patient care in women's health can manifest in delayed or #misdiagnosed conditions, including cancer, due to symptoms being attributed to other factors. Additionally, conventional cancer treatments like chemotherapy may have debilitating side effects. However, allopathic medicine plays a crucial role by providing #advanced #screening techniques, innovative treatments, and ongoing research into cancer prevention and management. Collaboration with complementary therapies and a shift towards personalized care are pivotal for addressing these challenges effectively. Meet pioneering leaders solving such problems like Sophie Smith سوفي سميث, our nominee who founded the NABTA Health for women in the MENA Region.

I am a great believer in the power of science and the impact it can have on improving healthcare. However, what I believe to be as, if not more important, is how scientific breakthroughs in healthcare are applied to different geographies and cultures so that it can have its maximum impact. Every year, over 604,000 women worldwide are diagnosed with cervical cancer and approximately 342,000 die from this largely preventable disease, caused by infection with Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Today is #HPVAwarenessDay, a crucial time to confront the issue of cervical cancer. The overwhelming majority – 9 out of 10 women – who die from cervical cancer live in low- and middle-income countries. Early detection is pivotal to the reduction of cervical cancer risk, but something we don’t talk about enough is the barriers to sample collections such as embarrassment, cultural influences and negative prior experiences. Self-collection gives control back to a woman without the need for an examination. I am so proud to be a small part of advancing access to more inclusive forms of healthcare. This case study by Roche and BBC StoryWorks is a prime example of when science and societal and cultural understanding come together to make a real impact. #HPV #HPVAwarenessDay #ValueofDiagnostics #HealthcareForAll

🌟 Excited to share an interview with by Josh Friedman of Healio News during the ASCO 2023 Annual Meeting! 🌟 We discussed our research on improving access to clinical trials for rural communities. Key takeaways: 📈 More individuals with advanced cancers live closer to clinical trial sites than a decade ago. 🌐 Decentralization could further enhance access for rural areas. 📊 Despite these advancements, challenges remain for certain populations, including American Indians/Alaskan Natives. 🔗 Read the full article: https://loom.ly/yjxzDwE #RuralCancer #ClinicalTrials #ASCO2023

A rare disease is defined as affecting fewer than 1 in 2,000 people - stunting researchers' ability to understand these diseases due to the scarcity in diagnosis and limited research opportunities. CMI's model aims to change that by enabling all cancer patients regardless of where they live or have been treated in the US and Canada to share their experiences, medical histories, and biological samples with the research community across the world. More than two in three people who die from cancer live in low and middle-income countries. While populations in these countries have surged in recent decades, #healthcare services have not kept up. Through programs like ASPIRE, Bristol Myers Squibb is working to improve access to our innovative #medicines in low and middle-income countries. By 2033, our goal is to reach more than 208,000 patients in these countries with our medicines, including immunotherapies for cancer. Closing gaps in global healthcare requires policy, structural and financial interventions. It calls for political leadership, alongside collaboration. Technology can help, too. Digitalization can bring healthcare closer to patients, improve how health systems operate and spur innovation in #medicines. Integrating #technology into routine healthcare can accelerate the delivery of services. The challenge is to spread technology more evenly to more of the world’s population faster. Every minute and a half, a woman dies of #CervicalCancer – 350,000 a year. About 94% of those deaths occur in LMICs, largely due to a lack of access to timely detection and treatment options. Cervical cancer can be cured if diagnosed early and treated promptly, but until recently, many of the available tools were unaffordable or ill-suited for low-resource settings. “These are not science fiction." A new report via Unitaid's technology landscape series serves as a leading repository of tools, case studies and evidence. Alongside World Health Organization recommendations, it contextualizes technologies within the framework of what works in LMICs. 🔎 Read the report: https://lnkd.in/gh2GBwbd UNITAID's focuses on tools for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of precancerous lesions, alongside future technologies such as #AI-powered screening. #MaternalHealth #ArtificialIntelligence #GlobalGoals #MaternalMortality #UNGA79
