The tech industry thrives on innovation and diverse perspectives, and as an HBCU graduate, we are critical to this ecosystem. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been nurturing brilliant minds and producing leaders who are driving innovation and excellence in tech. HBCUs contribute nearly $15 billion annually to the U.S. economy and produce a large percentage of Black engineers and scientists. For example, 42% of Black engineers and 47% of Black women engineers are HBCU graduates. Despite being historically underfunded, these institutions continue to excel in fostering top talent in the tech sector. Many students enroll in college with the ambition of acquiring advanced skills that will set them apart in their future careers. Yet, this pursuit often comes with a hefty price tag and the burden of student debt. The traditional curriculum was crafted for an era dominated by industrial labor. But as we step into the technology age, many programs have yet to adapt. The good news? The Royal Society has an open call for its inaugural Career Development Fellowship. The focus for the present call is Black STEM graduates. You don't have to be in the UK to qualify. Neither do you need a PhD from a UK university. You just need your brilliant idea, find a host organization in the UK, identify as Black, and within 24 months of completing your PhD. You'll get mentorship from top scientists and get the much needed momentum to kickstart your career. Are you worried about the new immigration laws that demand more than £38,000 for you to be eligible to bring your family?
