What is the value of ”Take Your Daughter to Work Day? We think it is education and empathy, so the child knows what the parent does daily, but it is so much more. It instills lifelong work values. Meahgan Gibson attended a “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. To this day she reminds me of a few choice words I stated during a staff meeting but she also pursued a career in Leisure and Hospitality. More importantly she picked up values like; everybody is critical to success (especially the lowest paid hourly associates), every person has a story, treat people with dignity and respect, and if they have a name tag, user their name. Grow by trying new things that others shy away from. Powerful words are “thank you” and “can you help me”, and assisting others even if you do not have time. Today this was in my feed. I had no idea she was working on this. Biscuits and socks, who knew? But more importantly, a young professional (from a generation many professionals belittle) leading a project that reflects well on the brand and does good for the community. Also hats off to Dennis Pfaff, Maple Street Biscuit Company and Cracker Barrel for creating an organization culture where young professional growth occurs. Take your daughter to work and as a leader, your relationships matter more than you know. #cio #leadership
TLDR: I've been working on something pretty cool! "The Maple Street Mantra: Help People, Serve Others, Be A Part Of The Community" is why I joined the team. I'm grateful to Maple Street Biscuit Company for allowing me to take on something so near and dear to who we are. *Maple Street Silly Socks* a portion of sock sales will go directly to LifeQuest Organ Recovery Services and U.F. Health, supporting their incredible work to maximize the Gift of Life through organ and tissue donation. This is particularly meaningful because giving back has always been a big part of who I am. From working with the Miami Children's Initiative during my time at the University of Florida to my work with the Harrison County Community Foundation, I've seen firsthand the impact we can make when we come together. Your support means the world and will help create positive change in our community. P.S. The socks are pretty cool as well https://lnkd.in/gKJnfwB6

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow...
Documenting this moment - today I got to touch the very first donation for the new Heritage Centre in Hyndburn. Beautiful teeny tiny children’s clogs, owned by Ethel - who was born almost 100 years ago in Accrington. These will help community stories come to life, whilst we imagine a walk through Accrington Town Square in Ethel’s shoes! #Heritage #AccringtonTownSquare

Senior Vice President @Simmons College of Kentucky:EdD, Certified Fundraising Executive, DEI Trainer and Workforce Development Executive.
As a seasoned fundraiser with extensive experience in philanthropy, I would like to emphasize the critical lessons from the recent setbacks at FAMU, as discussed by Marybeth Gasman. Due diligence in philanthropy isn’t just a procedural step; it’s a cornerstone of sustainable and ethical fundraising. It’s essential to rigorously vet donors and understand their motivations to align their interests with the core values and mission of the institution. This approach safeguards the organization’s integrity and ensures that the philanthropic relationships we build are transparent and mutually beneficial. As we navigate these complex dynamics, we must remain vigilant in our commitment to due diligence to uphold the trust placed in us by our community and stakeholders. This article is a potent reminder of the vigilance required in all philanthropic engagements.

Of the $390.05 billion in charitable gifts in 2016, $18.21 billion went to Arts, Culture, and Humanities. Overall contributions to all nine major philanthropy subsectors increased for the sixth time in the last four decades, with giving by individuals growing by nearly 4 percent, driving the rise in total gifts. —Giving USA 2017: The Annual Report on Philanthropy for the Year 2016

Excited to finally see my first book in print "Nonprofit Collaborations in Diverse Communities" with amazing colleagues Abdul Samad and Shariq Siddiqui. "Using a community-based participatory research approach, Shariq A. Siddiqui, Abdul Samad, and Rafeel Wasif investigate the challenges and opportunities in collaborations between nonprofit organizations. With a focus on diverse minority communities, particularly under-resourced, racialized and stigmatized nonprofits and Muslim-led organizations, this book provides different approaches to connect them with the broader philanthropic community." https://lnkd.in/d5H4jPx6

Last week, Anick Silencieux from Support Black Charities shared a workshop with our team on Black Philanthropy in Canada. One central theme throughout Anick’s presentation was the importance of uplifting and elevating your community. This is a common motivation for why people give, and it left us with some reflections that we wanted to share with you: 👉 What does elevating my community mean to me? 👉 How can I incorporate elevating my community into my charitable giving? 👉 What steps can I take to get started?
