Dattner Architects is thrilled to be the Architect for the team selected to design and build the new AirTrain at Newark Liberty International Airport. This prestigious project, awarded by The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey last week, marks a significant milestone in the ongoing redevelopment of one of the nation's busiest airports. The new AirTrain system will replace the existing, outdated system with a state-of-the-art, 2.5-mile elevated rail structure and three new stations. This project is a critical component of the Port Authority's vision to transform Newark Liberty International Airport into a world-class transportation hub. Working within the Tutor Perini Corporation/ O&G Industries, Inc. NEW: The Port Authority has awarded joint-venture firm Tutor Perini/O&G with a design-build contract to replace Newark Liberty International Airport's existing outmoded AirTrain system. Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport plans significant upgrades, enabling the airport to serve to serve 56 million passengers by 2040, compared to the current all-time record of 39.5 million passengers set in 2019. Highlights of the long-term plan include new gates that are part of a near-term need to expand Terminal 2 to the south and a long-term project to extend Concourse G in Terminal 1. John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) has officially broken ground on a new $2 billion terminal, designed to accommodate the region’s growing air travel needs. The new facility will feature 36 gates, up from the current 29, and is set to support up to 13 million passengers annually. This modern terminal will include a centralized security checkpoint, an expanded marketplace with food and retail options, and larger gates to handle aircraft like the Boeing 747-8. The project also includes a multi-level parking garage and a pedestrian bridge connecting the terminal to the rental car center. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine highlighted the project’s significance, describing it as a symbol of Ohio’s growth and hospitality. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is urging travelers using John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) during the Thanksgiving holiday to avoid driving directly to airport terminals and instead rely on public transportation and the free pick-up and drop-off lot at AirTrain JFK’s Lefferts Boulevard station to avoid traffic at the terminal frontages. CHICAGO- United (UA) and American Airlines (AA) expressed their support for the plan proposed by the Chicago city earlier in April to alter the construction sequence for a new Global Terminal and two adjacent satellite concourses at O'Hare Airport (ORD).
